motorcycle accidents

Between the age of 16 and 20 I had 3 mates die, 1 loose his foot and 1 spend 4 weeks in a coma after being hit by a truck before coming around and still today (40+ years on) he isnt right, mind you even at junior school we called him dangerous, when he came around his girl friend was at his bed and his first words were "hows the bike" he still rides today, but hes deaf in one ear and stutters. He's in France now his Kwaker as we speak with another mate riding in front for him to follow, he thinks he's in Spain and weve given up trying to tell him otherwise.

I was knocked off by a car and walked away, never got back on. I remeber laying in the drive way I landed in, looking at a car I'd just missed and thinking "thats the way to go", I still look at bikes particually cafe racers and think that would be nice, but then I think NO

It’s the same everywhere. My son was up at Gairloch on Saturday and Sands Campsite was full got turned away with his tent.

Not everywhere. Our recent ride from where I live right up through Teesdale, across the Hartside Pass and down to Ullswater was bliss. Really quiet. Teesdale and Eden in Cumbria next door are the two least populated regions in England so maybe thats why. The even have traffic lights on remote country roads down here in Gloucester, Wiltshire and even Somerset!

Me to lost a mate, I was his best man, he left behind 3 young kids, passing other bikes coming into Larne on the coast rd he went over the rails into the sea, plod recons he was heading to 200mph.

my good lady missis is a senior sister in A&E
they often refer to us as "organ donors"
(mind you.. they wouldn't want my lungs as I have been smoking for over 40 years.. or my liver either as I like a drink like a fish.. :ROFLMAO: my eyesight is crap too.. so no chance of any corneas .. in fact I cant think of any part of my body that would be useful..
on second thoughts.. there is one appendage that still works.. :ROFLMAO:
So you're not deaf then. I said....

My colleague got a dull one when a car pulled out in front of him on the A9. He was heli-vac to Ninewells Dundee. He nearly lost his nads while sailing over bike handlebars, with bike snapped in two. He recently returned to work and is slowly on the mend.

Car driver completely at fault.

Even more recent, another colleague had his bike written off by a newly pass car driver (4 days) Musselburgh High St, bike stopped at Toucan Crossing, young lad way above 20mph max limit, not paying attention, bang, another hospital job.

I gave up my bike 25+ year ago, too many near misses, with ever increasing busy roads.
I stopped riding my motorbike 5 years ago when a young driver in a mini (passed his test a week before) ran into the back of me I was in my car waiting to turn right and both vehicles were written off. It was on a perfectly straight road he was done for dangerous driving. Had I have been on my motorbike I would be dead. It's too dangerous for bikes these days.

I've been riding for over 60 years, plenty "offs" during the early years but I always ride as though every other road user either can't see me or is out to kill me. Even so one car driver managed to hit me in the rear 3 years ago ! I still do road training as often as possible and hope to carry on for several more years 😁

Worry not, when your time is up that is it, fate will have its way, if an accident is meant to kil you it will be that on a bike or walking down the road. If you don’t feel confident after a incident then yes, stay off bikes but most just get back on when they are able. I lost loads of mates (and bits of me) on bikes, but I lost loads more over the year to drink, drugs, car accidents and normal stuff as well.

I will admit, if I had known I was going to live this long I would probably have taken a bit more care of myself haha

Not sure I take the fatalistic view or not, If I look out and it's icy, don't take the bike, that's common sense, to take the bike could be fatal.

all bikers know others who lost their lives on the roads. we were on the ferry to the isle of man one year when our son text us to say a mate of his died in a crash involving his bike & a tractor on a country road.

I suppose, all things considered, I've not broken anything so far, and not lost anyone to a road incident, I should consider myself lucky had a couple of spills and nothing too serious, I wouldn't consider myself a particularly cautious rider/driver but I am observant which might be key in this, my nickname yonks ago was Hawkeye.

I nearly got killed by a bumble bee once. I was 17 and riding across country in county durham through some woods. Just before I hit a bend at about 50+ I got hit in the face by a huge bee and went straight on off the road into the woods. It reminded me of that scene in star wars where they are flying through the forest. :D suddenly trees everywhere. Never actually hit one somehow and even stayed on the bike.

No visor down then, like getting shot in the face.
