Motor home parked at Conwy on disabled bay

In last weeks "North Wales Weekly News" there was a piece on parking on Conway Quay and it's problems, but sadly it mentioned that last year, a campervan stayed parked in the disabled bay for four days.

They did have a blue badge, so there was nothing that could be done.

I hope this wasn't a member of this forum as incidents like this only alienate the public and council.

Living in an area where there is a very high population of older people, many of whom have blue badges, myself included, this selfishness stops others using the facilities.

Used sensibly the blue badge scheme is great, but sadly it is abused by car drivers as well as motor homes etc, but the size of our vehicles makes us stand out.

If it was a member, please don't do it again, it stops the slow work I'm doing to grind away at the council.

PS, the Old Colwyn end of the prom is to be redeveloped, I'm pressurising councillors to accept MH as a tourist asset and put facilities in place, there's also talk of facilities for fishermen as well. We'll see!!

Well done Pete.
You are doing a grand job and if you succeed it could set the tone for other areas in Wales.

As for the idiot parking in the disabled bay, it's unfortunate that a minority ruin it for the majority.

I think this has to be tempered with common sense. If there were several disabled bays there, lightly used, I wouldn't object to then staying one or two nights. I think four is too much. If it was the only disabled bay then they should only occupy it for a couple of hours while they used the local facilities, so that it was free for another disabled user later on.

Parking at Conway has long been a problem & was aggravated by recent "improvements". I kept my boat there for years but eventually got fed up with the council treating yotties as a cash cow & increasing charges every year. I went to see the council about lack of parking for the mooring holders during the refurbishment & I was told that "boatowners don't contribute the local community". Even when I pointed out that there were 5 people employed in the harbour office, plus several more at the 2 marinas, that several pubs & restaurants relied on our trade - just the moorings & marina rates alone generate a million pounds a year. She looked a bit surprised.

They are just so focussed on day trippers who generally bring their own food & just leave the litter behind.:scared:

Sorry, rant over. I moved my boat to Caernarfon & voted with my keel. Good luck, but I fear you have a long uphill struggle to get them to think sensibly - too many closed minds & ignorant self-interests. How any one with a touristy business doesn't see the potential value of people who own a major asset like a motorhome or a yacht is completely beyond me - but that is how it is round there!

@Smaug I also used to keep my boat at Conwy and was forced to leave by the abysmal parking. How did you get into Caernarfon? I thought you needed a letter from god.

@Bigpeetee Is there anything we can do to help with your campaign? Have you posted details elsewhere on the forum?

Airecraft; there are spaces in the River Seoint, on the trots if your boat can dry out. After about 8 years I am finally up against the Quay wall which means I don't have to stress about tide times & being afloat when I arrive. Have a chat with Richard Jones at the Caernarfon Harbour Trust, I'm sure he will find you a spot, but only if you can take the ground. It's a lovely sheltered spot & I often overwinter in commission.
