Still not got any set planyet when we head up to Scotland but we are thinking we may head up as far as Moray Firth....Is it as nice what people say ???

Jac, it is nice but if your going up as far as that, i know some lovely places, more to the west tho, i will talk to you at halloween meet lass xx

It's lovely, and you'll probibly see at the very least, the odd seal bobbing about.

and on the west you will see, loads of seals and the odd Otter, Sea Eagle, Basking Shark and Minky whale, and lots of birds on the cliffs, trust me Jac, west is best, no comparison to East,

I went to the Moray Firth and saw nothing. Beau and I stood there for about 2 hours, with lots of other people, I think someone told them we were watching! Maybe I should have been more patient, I was there at the recommended time in relation to the tide turning too.
I took a boat trip out the the Summer Ilslands from Ullapool (West) and saw loads of seals and porpoise's I'm sure there must be places to see them without going on a boat though.

You will really enjoy the wonderful scenery all the way along the Moray coastline and further to
Fraserburgh or viceversa, there are some stunning little villages and also some thriving towns on the way, as well as seals you will see some Dolphins as you near the Inverness end keep your eyes open, and get camera ready, have a nice trip,,,John

Thanks John ...any chance of the northern lights that way ???? :bow::bow: ...If I saw all three dolphins seals and lights now wouldnt that be a trip WOW !!!:bow::bow::bow::bow:

The West coast of the highlands is the most spectacular scenery in Great Britain - and beyond!
However I would also add that I had the most wonderful time on the Moray Firth last autumn (Oct).
I went specificly to see the dolphins - and was not disappointed. In fact my experience was far beyond what I was expecting. The dolphins fished for hours about 10 feet off the shore. I was even able to position my dogs on the beach and get photos of the dolphins jumping out the water behind them!! :lol-053::rabbit::lol-053::cool1:
There are several threads on Chanonry Point / Moray Firth, but happy to give you more info if you like.
It's quite feasible to do a circuit up there then down the Great Glen to the west coast.

What a shame! I was there 3 days and saw them 2-3 times each day. Little baby ones too :cool1:
When the dolphins left, a lone seal came and larked around for our entertainment :lol-053:

As well as that list of wild creatures there have also been some unconfirmed sightings of Scampa along the west coast in the last few weeks!
As a couple of you know, I've been meandering slowly up the west side of Scotland, including a few days on the wilder parts of Skye, and it really is as breathtaking as I remember it! (haven't been up here for a few years). The east coast is good, but as Kimbowbill says, the west is the place to be for true wild ruggedness. Keep heading north and the scenery gets more dramatic while the roads get emptier.
I've seen seals all along the west coast. When they catch a fish they strip the skin off before eating it, so look for a group of seagulls mobbing a spot just offshore and you may find a seal is feeding there!
BTW, the last time I saw dolphins they were just swimming around aimlessly, with absolutely no sense of porpoise!!
The last few days I've been steadily touring along the very north coast, exploring all the nooks and crannies, coves, harbours and wild sandy beaches. As I said, it's a long time since I've been up here, so it's good to see how little has changed over the years. I'm in no particular hurry, so if I find somewhere interesting I linger around for a while.
The last two nights I've slept outside old graveyards (the neighbours were very quiet), but tonight I have an excellent wildcamping spot, with good internet connection too for a change. In fact, except for a lighthouse keeper, I'm probably the most northerly person on mainland Britain tonight!!
Whichever part of Scotland you're thinking of heading to..... east, west, north or south... just go there and enjoy all that it has to offer. It really is as good as we all say it is!!

Good spots at Caterline Angus coast, st Cyrus Angus coast, new aberlour Moray coast, Whitehills Moray coast, Penan Moray coast. Seen lots of wild life at these spots. Anyway have s great trip.

Many thanks to those of you that replied to herbenny`s request for info on the north west of scotland. I too want to explore the same area so have made a list of the places mentioned.
Sorry that I won`t meet you herbenny, at least not this year, just getting over a panic of 2 clots on the lungs. Could have been a lot worse, now on rat poison ( Warferin ) for 6 months.

Thanks Bish ....Oooo I do hope you have a speedy recovery and you feel well soon. I am sure when the time comes you will have a a wonderful trip. I will keep you posted on our travels and let you knw where we end up.
