Moray Firth

This has been in the POIs for some time - CR Munlochy ...

Was it ok there, may call in november

Hi Madria, If you mean the POI at Munlochy, then yes, it seemed very good to me. I didn't sleep there myself, but stopped there to check it out while I was in the area (as I often do). There was plenty of room, and you can park up away from the road, so I'd be happy to stay overnight!

Or the POI at Clava Cairns car park? I did spend the night there with no problems and can recommend it. I was joined by a courting couple for an hour or so (they were in the car park, not in my van!) but it was very quiet and out of the way. :):)

It's the wrong time of year to see dolphins in the Moray Firth. We were at Fort George a couple of weeks ago and the guy there told us the dolphins are only usually there from May till early Sept.

As for seals, a labrador was killed by a seal whilst swimming in the sea near Aberdeen this week, so just watch out for them with your dogs.

Alison

That's the recommendation, and probably the best time. However when I was there end Sept/beg Oct the dolphins came by 3-4 times a day - regardless of whether the tide was high or low :)

I'm glad you mentioned about the dogs and seals, and I'd also like to add that the current at Chanonry point is also very dangerous and dogs have been killed feet from the shore as unable to swim against it.

At C.P. it is the meeting point of two tides, and, there is a very steep drop off where the dolphins trap the fish for a sumptuous feast.

possible poi

Hi scampa, was referring to Balintor as a possible overnight place for you to have a look at if you were in that area - have parked in the car there some time ago but not stayed overnight. Thanks for the info on Munlochy though regards

I forgot to mention that I found some very level grassed parking areas along the road to Chanonry Point. Very convenient for early morning dolphin watching!

They even put flags on them so we can find them more easily! :)

Hi there,

We stayed on the " CR Munlochy " for 1 night in September and whilst it has lovely views
there is something you need to be aware of..........

We had probably the worst night we have ever had, because EVERY BLOODY CAR that
passed throughout the night gave either a good long blast or honk honk honk honk honk
on their horns as they drove passed on the main road .

This also carried on the following morning as everyone was going to work as well.

I can only put it down to " Jealousy " !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just think it`s something to take into account.

Regards.

Graham.

Just fantastic
He was very reserved though, videos from my trip have me squealing with delight like a two year old on Christmas day :lol-049:
