Mercedes 814d (1995 pre vario) Where can I get brake shoes?

Does anyone out there know where I can get brake shoes for my Mercedes 814d campervan. I've tried Mercedes and they've said the don't stock them.

Recommendations for alternatives that are reasonably priced would be welcome.

Hi, have you tried a local commercial vehicle spares supplier or brake specialist? I don't know of any in your area as I'm from the midlands, but I would have thought that your local Mercedes dealer should be able to get them for you.

Hi I have a 308d t1 602 bought last year.1991, Campervan Bertie is his name we had the same problem got sold later sprinter shoes which I had to send back and had to go to a brake shoe reline specialist who cleaned and relined our original shoes. Its a more costly option but the only way to sort our problem.Good luck in your search.

Mercedes have tole me they don't stock them anymore. The only suggestion they have given is that I get them relined.

I spend a lot of time in the potteries so suppliers in the midlands you know of may not be too far from me.

I only had the brake drum removed today. Found that the brake mechanism on one side was seized and the shoes close to limits.

So as yet have been unable to get a hold of any commercial vehicles suppliers as they all seem to be taking the weekend off.

All helpful suggestions are very much appreciated.

PM me your VIN number and I'll check the parts list for a number for you.

Looking up the Mercedes number on Google often throws up odd suppliers.

Also look out for brake relining specialists on the web.

Peter

Edit: I had a quick look on the EPC system, there are too many brake shoe options to list here, but shoes and lining kits are listed.

Thanks peter, just email you with the vin. Would be grateful for the part numbers for most of the hand brake mechanism within the drum as it's seized up and I'll be needing more than just the shoes.

Lining kit comes up as A 670 423 64 11
Shoes complete A 670 420 35 19

Look at the picture, is that the same as your brake assemblies? There are a lot of variations showing:

Let me know which extra bits you need parts for from the drawing.

Below is what I found once the hub was removed.

I think I’ll need 112,116 122,128 110,119 the fitting kit 140

That's unless there's a chance that some of the mechanism arms can be cleaned up to work.

and the shoes.

Will also want to replace two of the locking rings that stop the hub nuts spinning.

Thanks for the part numbers Peter.

You're correct google and ebay do bring up suppliers for a couple of parts.

How do you have access to the Merc parts database?

You can buy the DVD's on ebay, it's a bit picky about where it goes and what is running around it, but a very useful resource. It covers ALL Mercedes vehiclkes, not just the vans.

I have it on two laptops, one at home and one at work, surprises the local dealership when I give them a list of part numbers to price up :)

Avoid those selling it with VM proxy servers, you want a straight clean install of EPC. WIS (Workshop Information System should integrate with EPC, but I haven't managed to get that running yet.

no,but i've re-lined my own brake shoes here and abroad,it's not a difficult job,i can't see them getting it wrong

when i took my old vw to africa a took a full set of brake linings and rivets . lighter than taking spare shoes .
so long as the thickness is ok . other linings can be drilled and riveted on your shoes . easy job really.
i remember when almost all linings for all vehicles were riveted you just bought linings . some linings will fit several vehicles its only the shoes that change .

Thanks Peter,

Does this on Ebay look reasonable Mercedes WIS / ASRA & EPC Dealer Service Repair Workshop Manual 1986-2014. | eBay

I found a firm to reline the shoes nearby. They're asking for about £60.

Hopefully the mechanic again will fork-lift the van and get the rear brakes dismantled in the morning.
