Not really one for religious buildings but on a recent visit to Liverpool we walked up to the cathedral and I was much impressed. To be honest I never thought that such an impressive building could have been constructed in the 20th century, but it was built between 1904 and 1978. From the outside the belfry with its 14 bells is really impressive. Liverpool Cathedral is the largest religious building in the U.K. and the 5th largest in the world. Its belfry stands at 331 feet and sitting on the top of a hill it looks really impressive. Unfortunately it was closed when we went, but if we are ever back in Liverpool we will head back there to see if we can venture inside.
Did you see the Tracey Emin bird on a stick, Bill, or has it been nicked again?
Tbh, the interior of the cathedral doesn't live up to the exterior IMHO. Also, the ridiculous neon lighted words (also by Emin) jars on the eye and look completely out of place.

The thing about Liverpool is that we have two cathedrals.
They are connected by "Hope Street".
"In my Liverpool home, in my Liverpool home
We speak with an accent exceedingly rare
Meet under a statue exceedingly bare
And if you want a Cathedral, we've got one to spare
In my Liverpool home"
