I was in Liverpool not Pakistan MarkGreat pictures.
Surely there's a K2 in the vicinity.![]()
After he put the ball between Ray Clemences legs for a famous Scottish victory over the auld enemyWhen was King Kenny added above the entrance door, Bill?
No Ral did not see it.Did you see the Tracey Emin bird on a stick, Bill, or has it been nicked again?
Tbh, the interior of the cathedral doesn't live up to the exterior IMHO. Also, the ridiculous neon lighted words (also by Emin) jars on the eye and look completely out of place.
When I was an architecture student in Liverpool we knew a side door that was usually unlocked and could get up spiral stairs to the roof and into the top of the tower, the view from up there both inside and outside was breathtaking.View attachment 137434View attachment 137435View attachment 137436View attachment 137437Not really one for religious buildings but on a recent visit to Liverpool we walked up to the cathedral and I was much impressed. To be honest I never thought that such an impressive building could have been constructed in the 20th century, but it was built between 1904 and 1978. From the outside the belfry with its 14 bells is really impressive. Liverpool Cathedral is the largest religious building in the U.K. and the 5th largest in the world. Its belfry stands at 331 feet and sitting on the top of a hill it looks really impressive. Unfortunately it was closed when we went, but if we are ever back in Liverpool we will head back there to see if we can venture inside.

I immediately thought of that song, by the English folk group, the Spinners. I looked up the full lyrics to remind myself, and found this site where the "genius" included a picture of the wrong group. It shows an American group of the same name who had to be marketed in the UK as either the Detroit Spinners or the Motown SpinnersThe thing about Liverpool is that we have two cathedrals.
They are connected by "Hope Street".
"In my Liverpool home, in my Liverpool home
We speak with an accent exceedingly rare
Meet under a statue exceedingly bare
And if you want a Cathedral, we've got one to spare
In my Liverpool home"
Scott did the Anglican one.Lutyens and Scott did plans for the same cathedral?
Or different ones?
Thanks.Scott did the Anglican one.
We all have our own opinion, but I thought the interior was amazing, especially the route up to the roof of the bell tower. Well worth a vist. So is Paddy's wigwam!Did you see the Tracey Emin bird on a stick, Bill, or has it been nicked again?
