Hi

Is it possible to charge a leisure battery from a domestic socket (i.e. from the house) or is there something special about charging points at campsites?

Thanks.

Helzie

Hi ya,
Its absolutely fine to charge a Leisure batteries from a House socket, Nothing special regarding the electric supply at all, Its just the Size, Shape, Colour, Amp & IP ratings that are the main differences.

Yes it is,ideally you need a multi stage charger that will revert to a float charge when the leisure battery is full.

Campsites have electric hook ups, which will charge the leisure battery through an on board charger in the motorhome. There's nothing special about them, some have different ratings eg 16 Amps which simply means that is the current they will provide before tripping out.

That's good news.

Apart from a multi stage charger, do I need a special cable? I presume I'll need an adaptor since the cable that comes with the van won't fit house sockets?

Thanks.

You can get a 'Tail' That is about a foot long & has a House type Socket on one end & a Blue type Plug on the other & again one that has a Blue type Socket & a House type Plug That are typically used & a both a useful addition to your kit.

Is the multi-stage charger usually part of the electrics in the van? Our new (old actually!) camper van has a split charger and power management system.
