Jump starter/ power bank

No idea rob, but the person said it cost an arm and a leg, main thing is that 600amps for cranking but those we inits don't have anything near that, so where is the extra coming from, surely not from the dead battery, if I get one to try I will and report on findings. (y)

I don't know the science Trev, but they are spec'd as 1250A.

Have you got an inverter?

Surely that's almost as magic with just 12v in and 240v out....

Hell....

They will be going on about making electricity from the sun next....

It'll NEVER catch on.... Believe me....

We might be walking around with things pressed to our ears next talking to folks that AREN'T even within earshot.

How the heck you manage to post stuff on here just using smoke signals and chicken bones ill never know.

Trust me Trev ....
I AM THE Most cynical person you will EVER meet....

BUT even I will occasionally allow myself to check out some modern new fangled technology.....

Some of it IS almost..... useful ;-)

Inverter 12v in at high amps, output high voltage at low amps, as I said I will get my hands on one to test, I already have one of the old school units which has a gel m cycle size batt inside, mainly used for testing bulbs etc in the w shop, found it almost useless on dead batteries, ok on a just below power one but only got a few turns, cost me £15 about ten years back trade price.

Now I did have one of those once Trev - same model I think, and yes it was pretty crap.

Just about turned a small outboard over.

If there so good why dont car makers fit as standard, I had to start a big jeep at school gates after one of those was tried, did not but click the solenoid, 10 mins with my van hooked up and all batteries switched in we got it to go, if and when I see a good one work then I may empty my pockets for one.
Different characteristics. FWIW, I saw a YouTube where someone disconnected the battery on an American pickup and then started the truck using a similar jump-start pack to prove that it would start. However, while they can provide a large discharge current to power the vehicle starter, they have a relatively low capacity can't be recharged as quickly. They claim 48 minutes to charge from empty via USB fast charge (5v, 6A -- so only around 2 Ah at 12v) and it takes my 2.1A USB charger over an hour to fully recharge my GBX45 after just one start. Hence, while they'll start a car or motorhome that has a completely flat battery, they are not suitable to permanently replace that battery.

We have a Roypow came in a neat carry case. Has started our van several times when we had battery problems including when charge only showed as 3. Rest of the time we use it to charge usb stuff and as an emergency light.
