Is there something happening we are not being told?

Yesterday whilst paying a visit to the motorhome compound we noticed a very long queue of cars at a Sainsbury petrol station. So long it was queuing well into the main road. We thought this was a bit odd.

So I thought that rather than join the queue I would get some diesel later for our car as it was running on fumes.

In the afternoon visited another Sainsbury service station and this was closed!

Hmm I thought. OK carry on to the next service station which was branded and all diesel pumps were closed off although unleaded available.

At this stage panic set in as did I have enough diesel in the tank to get back home?

So carried on to the next Asda forecourt which thankfully had diesel so filled up.

Is there something going on with deliveries or diesel that we are not being told about?

Or was it just a coincidence that I had a localised issue finding some diesel?

We are planning a motorhome trip and do not want the fuel crisis experience that we had when we went to Brighton in 2021.

Any thoughts or feedback.

Shot up to £1.25 from 84p just a few days ago. Every time their is a Cop27 type shindig the price goes up.
Reparations to the countries that we have destroyed by the industrial revolution will hike things up further. When I say destroyed I mean give them the wherewithal to escape poverty. Or for them to buy more arms to bomb their neighbours or their own people. Or for the despots to line their own pockets.

£1.78 for diesel at Costco Metro Centre yesterday.

Same congested queues, but move through quickly like Wully says. Seems everybody and his auntie’s cat has begun to realise they are the cheapest for fuel.

Inside the store was also heaving and car park full and overflowing.

Checkouts were nowhere near as busy as usual despite the large number of people wandering round the store. I got straight through no need to queue.

Also noticed eggs were on ration in the big Lidl in Swalwell when I called in to do a wee grocery shop on the way home, ditto in Aldi 🥚🥚🥚

If the store was heaving and the checkouts were quiet.

With the astronomical energy prices- It's a possibility that they were all in there to keep warm!

I'm off to the library later, to do likewise.

I have always wondered how motorway Shell stations do business sometimes 10p a lt more.
If I am running short I might put enough to get me to a lower priced station never fill up at there prices as long as folk pay there prices they will remain high.yet when I stop for a break and pulling out there are cars and vans using there service..?

I would imagine that most of their trade comes from reps or similar. In other words people who are not actually paying for it themselves.

Indeed. In the old days when either just put in receipts for fuel or used a company fuel card, you'd fill up wherever convenient or whoever had the best freebies when you bought fuel.

We dont have a Costco within 55 miles! I use https://www.petrolprices.com/.
We find some local garages are way cheaper than all the supermarkets.. of them, Sainsburys is the best within striking distance.
Tesco follow Sainsbury’s lead…
in King’s Lynn, Tesco & Sainsburys are opposite each other, prices near identical. In Wisbech (12 miles away and no Sainsburys), Tesco is at least 5p/lt dearer than in KL.

3 garages within 500 mtrs of each other here and prices change from day to day, one is a southern Irish co and is mainly a few pence cheaper than tesco or maxol.

Be aware that as I understand it the Fawley refinery begins a 2 week strike today. keep topped up before the queuing really starts.

Davy
It is panic buying and topping up that causes the queues and there no need, so please don’t.

An ExxonMobil spokesperson said: ''This action involves trade union members employed by contracting companies operating onsite.
''Operations at Fawley are unaffected and we do not anticipate any impact on fuel supplies to customers."

Ah right, so there will be some when i go and top up normally when it`s between 1/4 and empty if i behave responsibly ?

Bollocks and Pigs might fly ................... springs to mind so i`ll carry on topping up now when it gets down to 3/4 like i`ve started doing.

Been there done that, behaved responsibly and waited like they say and i`ve ended up losing out so i had to get fuel out of the motorhome to put in the car in an unexpected situation were we had to be somewhere in a hurry.

I will carry on keeping both the car and motorhome as full as possible and top up.

I was told their is world shortage of deisel and prices are going to rise. Further. What do you think ?.

There is lots of diesel as its a by-product of making gas petrol and aviation fuel, gov just dont want use to use it because electric is on its way full time in seven years, by that time or sooner it will hit £5 a ltr and the rd tax will be £500 for ICE.
