Is there something happening we are not being told?

Yesterday whilst paying a visit to the motorhome compound we noticed a very long queue of cars at a Sainsbury petrol station. So long it was queuing well into the main road. We thought this was a bit odd.

So I thought that rather than join the queue I would get some diesel later for our car as it was running on fumes.

In the afternoon visited another Sainsbury service station and this was closed!

Hmm I thought. OK carry on to the next service station which was branded and all diesel pumps were closed off although unleaded available.

At this stage panic set in as did I have enough diesel in the tank to get back home?

So carried on to the next Asda forecourt which thankfully had diesel so filled up.

Is there something going on with deliveries or diesel that we are not being told about?

Or was it just a coincidence that I had a localised issue finding some diesel?

We are planning a motorhome trip and do not want the fuel crisis experience that we had when we went to Brighton in 2021.

Any thoughts or feedback.

You’ll probably find that the sainsburys were a few pence cheaper than the rest and that’s why they were busy. I went into to fill up at Costco earlier this week and there must have been 60 cars in line but it moves pretty fast they have about 20 pumps going. it’s nearly 16p a litre cheaper in Costco so it’s always busy I fill up at leat 3 times a week so that’s a massive saving over the year.

Wully it’s getting so bad that cars are backed up onto Springburn Road, waiting to get in. I reckon something will have to be done about this. Also folk who are not wanting fuel are having to queue to get into Costco.

A couple of weeks ago we were in Wales and needed to fill the MoHo. We were going to a Sainsburys for grocery so I decided to top up there.

It was £1.73 compared with £1.99 at the next door station, plus we got a coupon for £7.50 to spend in the shop.

I put 70 litres in. 70 x 26p = £18.20 plus £7.50 means I was over £25 better off using their station.

If you have not already made sure your vehicle is full of fuel, then perhaps now is the time to do it. Perhaps the queues were a combination of good prices and the impending strike at Farley starting on 21st November. The refinery supplies one sixth of UK fuel apparently.

Costco fuel is the best value all round.
I think maybe because a lot more people are cottoning on to that fact, what with the price of everything going through the roof? (Ha! see what I did there? More work for you I suppose! 😜 :ROFLMAO: )

For the last few months whenever I've gone to fill up at our local Costco there have been longer and longer queues, but as you say Wully they move through very quickly.

Last week gf was going into Sainbury's and there was a long queue for fuel, on way out she went to pumps to fill and they where sold out of petrol.

Not heard of any problems and when I went earlier this week to Galashiels in the Motorhome and put some fuel in at ASDA drove right to the pump.
Went to Galashiels again today in the car and again went to ASDA to fill up the car with Petrol as empty and just as earlier in the week drove right to the pump.
Maybe it is a regional thing?

When I use Costco there has almost been a queue, but given the much better price not surprising (but too far from a Costco to use other then when on a trip - nearest is over 50 miles away).

£1.779 at Tesco in Bishop Auckland yesterday, no queues. Best I have seen in the area.
Tesco and Sainsbury's in Bishop Auckland always seem to be a few pence cheaper than surrounding area?
K

No problems ( apart from the price £1.869 for diesel o_O ) at either Preston or Blackpool last night.

I would happily use Costco for fuel but my nearest one is just under 40 miles away so not worth it :(

Unfortunately our nearest CostCo (Aberdeen) doesn’t have a fuel station. Next nearest are Edinburgh or Glasgow, neither of which are less than 100 miles away!
