Is Scotland>Ireland>France a viable trip.

Have you looked at Newhaven Dieppe?
If you book one way it is expensive but if you book a return it is cheap. Then take into account the old farts discount it is even cheaper still, plus you are saving about £30 worth of diesel instead of going from Calais. We use it whenever we can although we don't like the 4hr crossing but because we can stop overnight at the port it is as well as cheaper convenient too.

Only ever book one way and it's usually cheaper than Dover?
Is there a huge price drop for getting a return?

Doesn't go anywhere near Scotland or Ireland though.

When I made a mistake and looked at booking a return (Newhaven Dieppe) it was roughly about £50 cheaper. Then take into account the 20% discount if you are over 60, you have to ring up to book to get this discount then you are saving about £30 in fuel by not travelling from Calais then it comes out a lot cheaper.
