Is Europe available to us again

Derek what about the contact you will have on the ferry, and throughout your journey.
If your travel insurance was taken out since lockdown you are not covered for covid.
French figures are currently rising, Luxembourg's figures are the highest in Europe.
If the Government pull the plug whilst your away your insurance is completely null and void.
And you will have to lock down for two weeks on your return.
Hope you have a good holiday, but right now I would not consider leaving the UK.
Our Health, and the health of others is way too important.
The British Isles have much to offer.

Also on my recent travels I have not seen anyone from outside the UK, and normally up here there are plenty.

Fisherman I think its like the old saying you cant take a sweet away from a child. Some just wont listen to logic. They wont be insured so good luck on that point. What happens if one breaks down will one still be insured for that? And there are people suffering now for the rest of their lives due to being infected with COVID19 and lived (not died) but are still seriously ill.Why would one want to travel the world in its present state.Defies any logic.!

Hmm. I heard a report on the radio the other day which claimed that recent studies into the virus seem to have discovered it hangs around longer in hot, dry air, not so much in humid air. Other studies claim it does not survive above 25 degrees C. So who's right?

Sounded a bit weird to me, but then the virus appears to be 'weird'.

You really don't know who's opinion to trust on this. Just have to make your own mind up and use plenty of common sense, common sense and even more common sense. We're all of us, including the experts, drifting around in the same boat, all kinda lost at sea! ;)
A lot of the warmer countries are in dire straits with this virus, as my cousin (stuck in Africa) can attest to. The main culprit is tightly packed, impoverished living in these countries, but the heat definitely does not seem bother it over there. Although it may die quicker (dry out) on hot surfaces.

We have just driven north from the Algarve, Portugal, Spain now north France.
No problems, lots of spaces.
Just keep away from the main tourist attractions and coast. Enjoy the quiet places.

Very pleased to hear that. Surprising what can be done with a bit of common sense.

I'll be off when I can get away.

Why do people think their holiday is more important than theirs or other people’s health. Covid has not gone away! We are getting it under some form of control and it takes everybody help to do this.
From day one of this pandemic I have worked keeping food on peoples tables and supplies moving, when working in the factories and warehouse social distancing was a joke, but we carried on as we were KEY workers. What really hit hard is travelling between jobs, especially when we had that heatwave, everybody seemed to be on holiday not furlough and lock down at home, cycling with their kids, picnics in the park, thousands going to the beach, every day i asked myself why the f@@k am I working when everyone else was having a great time and getting payed for it. Plus even though a lot of factories were shut the ones that were open were working flat out, it has been like the Christmas rush for 5 months. So believe me I don't think my holiday is more important than anybodies health, but i need a holiday for my own health, and if I cannot do what i like doing this country then I will go to France if I can.

We are tucked away in the East Algarve .
It feels safe, or did until the planes returned.
First came planeloads from Benelux, then the rest.
Now we have hotspots in Belgium and Luxembourg.
Planes still arrive from, Manchester, East Midlands BHX... All increasingly risky..
We're going nowhere .
We're so lucky that we ground to a halt here, 14 months ago.
We miss friends and relatives ... That's the only real downside..

Then we have the problem of insurance.
If you use travel insurance bought before the outbreak of Covid you should be covered, but if you bought it after then you would be travelling without any cover for Covid. Also if you travel against government warnings you have no insurance whatsoever. Then there’s the possibility of being stuck somewhere under quarantine, or having to quarantine on your return.

Travel insurance is less of a problem than you suggest.

This is a useful analysis:

The main problem arises if you travel against FCO advice, which invalidates any travel insurance.

France is exempt FOR NOW things can change in a heartbeat.

Of course, but we make plans and hope things go as planned.
On the news this morning it said that Belgium has had a 70% spike in cases and that Luxembourg could be next.

C'est la vie.
