Is a Mac better than a pc.

I got a mac last September, not looked back since. Well worth the money.

MAC's are good for graphic design type work, but there is'nt the range of software available for them that there is for PC's.

I believe they're better for video editing but unless you're specifically looking to edit video or graphics, then I'm told that a PC is more versatile. The people I know with Macs also have PCs to run software not available to Macs.

Historically this was true, MAC's were all the rage during the 1980's when IBM based pc's were good at maths and MACs were good at pictures. The lines are more blurred now with PC's having good graphics cards and being very good at both, MACS can do the maths but they are too expensive for businesses to put them on every desktop.

AJS has pc's in his van, AJ do you still use MACs?

I like them both but the fact you can build a very good pc for pocket money is what brings me back to a pc, MACs are just too expensive. I think the versitility of a PC is also better, we could all fit mini PC's into our MH's and Vans quite cheaply and easilly :)

If you use something that parrells on the mac it will also run windows, my Macbook pro has mac os x installed which is brillant, I also have windows 7 installed. The best bit is that you can have mac applications and windows applications running at the same time and transfer data between them etc.

Is it possible to put MAC OS into VMPlayer? I have VM player with various windows systems and Linux for testing code etc but I have never tried mac ?

MAC for the design studio and PC for home. Webbook and dongle for the camper and Iphone for the street. According to my grandkids! [the experts] As for light entertainment, go and see a lazer show!.....simples!!

So.... I have built.....assembled.....put together......... quite a few tower PC systems, and am thinking of upgrading our home tower to cope with HD video files. From what I have read here, I think that if I rebuild with a new motherboard, a dual core processor, good graphics board and lots of ram, I can then install a Mac OS and after scrounging some software, end up with a machine that can edit High Def footage from my camcorder without going tits up every ten minutes. Is that correct Mr Admin?

Why do people with Macs say that windows OS doesnt work? Yes it does. Ive worked in IT within the Print and Design industry for 21 years and I can tell you in that environment Macs are not 100% reliable. They do crash and do fail. The only thing they are relatively safe from is Virus's. Many design studios use PC's now because they are so much cheaper.

Dont get me started on the iPhone!!!

we have 4 PC's and 2 Macs...

Macs do commercial graphic design work running quark, adobe etc etc
dedicated output for print

PC's run the admin, edit the film footage, design the web sites, entertain HID, go in the van etc etc.

PC's are a nightmare to keep virus and bug free..
they are being hit daily
not so many aimed at the Macs... solve problem by keeping the Macs off line ..also keep 1 of the PC's off line too.

regards ;)

aj

both systems have their place and have defined rolls to play...:)

Anyone tell me if I can convert my Spectrum ZX to electricity, the coal nowadays is very expensive.
