Insurance renewal

For many years now my insurance has been arranged through AIB. However this year their renewal quotation has proved far from competitive. These circumstances may apply to others so hopefully the following information will be of assistance.

My existing cover is placed with Jensten and offers 180 day European cover. However Jensten have reduced that cover to 90 days which does not meet my requirements. They are not able to extend the cover to 180 days with an additional premium. AIB were unable to provide a competitive quote with an alternative insurer. The best quote they could provide was at more than double the Jensten premium for the coming year.

After much time on the phone I have obtained a very competitive quote with 180 day cover through https://www.advanceinsurance.co.uk/

European breakdown cover provided by RAC without age, weight or length restrictions is available at a very reasonable cost of £123.

The company was a pleasure to deal with and have provided excellent customer service thus far.

They are well worth approaching for a quote in my opinion.

Thanks for the information. I changed from Adrian flux to AIB because I thought that is what you should do after a couple of years. I saved a bit but actually wish I hadn't bothered.

I tried AIB last month, V poor. "We will get back to you", never did, called them the next day ,"yes we're working on it will call you back....." Never heard from them. Last time I'll try them. Caravanguard were best in the end. The only call back I got was, we have Street viewed your property and there is no driveway, have you made a mistake in you declaration sir? Nope you need to use Ariel view to see the Rear Driveways, in fact you can see the motorhome parked on it

My motorhome is in Google 'satellite' view both at home and also at the garage where it goes for maintenance. Let's hope the insurers dont look there!

Mine was the opposite...after 10 years it went up in big jumps for the last 2 years.
Now with safeguard who have no limits on eu travel.

My reasoning for that was if they are like that when you are trying to give them money what will they be like if you have a claim.

You think you have issues insuring an ordinary motorhome, try insuring a demountable. When we bought it a year ago only 3 companies would quote for a demountable. We chose the cheapest which was a lot more than I had expected to pay. Pleasant surprise on renewal it has dropped by about 40%.

Don't you insure the pick up and box separately...as in the box as a "load".
As long as it is not overweight and secured correctly.
I fancy one but am told it's too small

My experience with AIB has been good. As has the work they have done to find the right policy for me. Whilst my motorhome spends most of the winter on the drive I have to park it in front of the house a lot of the time and sometimes for a few weeks before a trip or if I am using the bikes (locked in the garage). Surprisingly there are not many providers that cover road side overnight parking. Ours is a quite village road but even still not many will cover it. It costs a bit more but having shopped around they offered the best deal that did and I think they went to a fair bit of effort to find one.

That depends on the insurer. Some do insist on separate policies and those that wanted 2 policies were the most expensive.

This time around I got 2 quotes for both on one policy and renewing with my existing was only £5 more than the alternative policy I was offered. If you can get it all on one policy then there is peace of mind that if you are in an accident there will be no arguing what is covered by the car policy and the motorhome policy.

To show how little some understand, one had a clause that when detached, the demountable body must be secured with a wheel lock and a hitch lock. Erm, it has neither a wheel or a hitch.

Just renewed the van insurance went onto the comparison sites and got it for £100 cheaper than last year,with the same conditions, cant be bad.

Now to renew your insurance you need a search code from the gov site which means you need your driving licence and national insurance number and then you get a code to send to the insurance company.

That is a check code not a search code to allow the insurance company to check your licence details are correct. Without that code insurance companies can't check you licence details. Not everyone tells the truth over the phone.

Is that new then? I seem to remember you can voluntarily put your licence number in but I never bother. All four of mine come up around the same time in the spring. Car, two bikes and the motorhome. I got stung on the Honda Biff Chariot insurance in September as I traded it in for a new one. The Vstrom 650 insurance is cheaper than the 110cc Honda. I bet thats because Vstroms owners are old farts and only cool reckless young rock gods ride the Honda Vision! I bet the beer holder on the Vision put it up as well. Bastuds!!

We were on the ring round yesterday for the new van and didn't do it, but we didn't actualy commit to any insurance. So make of that what you will.

Our van insurance is due later this month, I've done a search on a comparison site...without entering licence no...the cheapest were not a lot cheaper than the renewal quote from Adrian flux, who surprised me by being a bit more on the comparison site...first time I've ever had that.
