Insurance renewal

I've had similar disappointing problems with AIB, in the past. This year, my insurers, Ripe, emailed to say that they won't be offering a renewal quote, because their new underwriters won't insure anyone over 80 yrs old. I've now managed to obtain insurance for a reasonable price, but without breakdown cover in the EU.
Not too worried about that, because I've never had to use it anyway, and will take the chance, if we travel into the EU, next year.

Our van insurance is due later this month, I've done a search on a comparison site...without entering licence no...the cheapest were not a lot cheaper than the renewal quote from Adrian flux, who surprised me by being a bit more on the comparison site...first time I've ever had that.
I`ve found ,going on comparison sites ,you can get insurance cheaper with the same company.??

I've previously taken out insurance via a comparison site with the same company cos it was cheaper than the renewal quote.dont half cause problems with the online login....the robot thinks it's a new customer trying to use someone elses email and password,

For many years now my insurance has been arranged through AIB. However this year their renewal quotation has proved far from competitive. These circumstances may apply to others so hopefully the following information will be of assistance.

My existing cover is placed with Jensten and offers 180 day European cover. However Jensten have reduced that cover to 90 days which does not meet my requirements. They are not able to extend the cover to 180 days with an additional premium. AIB were unable to provide a competitive quote with an alternative insurer. The best quote they could provide was at more than double the Jensten premium for the coming year.

After much time on the phone I have obtained a very competitive quote with 180 day cover through https://www.advanceinsurance.co.uk/

European breakdown cover provided by RAC without age, weight or length restrictions is available at a very reasonable cost of £123.

The company was a pleasure to deal with and have provided excellent customer service thus far.

They are well worth approaching for a quote in my opinion.

Just resurrecting this as mine with AIB is up for renewal and its getting ridiculous now. I made it worse for myself just now when they read the details back and had the year wrong at 2014 so I told them it was a 2015 and it went up! :D

I have asked Advanced insurance for a quote.

I seem to remember in the past though there were issues with some ex AIB clients being unable to prove their no claims as a lot of motorhomer insurers don't give you proof and I have a feeling AIB were one of them. Just wanted to ask how you got on with that when you moved.

They may not be suitable anyway as I have to cover the van for parking overnight on the road as sometimes despite it being mainly parked on the drive it does get left out on the road before a trip for a while.

Safeguard cover on street parking Barry.
Unlike most on here I don't have a drive .
Though I do think if you're off street the majority of the time it doesn't matter.

Thanks. I just got a quote from them which is a fair bit cheaper than AIB. AIB wanted £711 this year (it was £698 until I told them they had the year wrong on the phone this morning) and Safeguard have come up with £620. Less excess as well. Seems like for like otherwise.

Still waiting on a quote from Advance Insurance but I'll probably go with Safeguard. Used them for years before we switched to AIB when the old van turned 20 years old and Safeguard would no longer insure it.

Not sure if there is anyone else worth trying. There aren't that many that cover roadside parking.

Caravanguard was £577 for me on a new van, needed tracker fitted. 8k miles/yr

I lost patience with them. Found the quote site clunky and went through all the options which took ages. One of the options for where the vehicle is kept was "on the road" so I ticked that, went through all the other stuff and right at the end it said we are unable to quote, probably because you ticked the box to park on the road. WTF! :(

Advance haven't come back to me so at the moment ill probably go with Safeguard. I spoke to Safeguard about my concerns over the no claims proof as I had heard AIB don't always provide it and she said we wont ask for it but you might need to prove it if you have a claim. AIB have not replied about it yet either.

Adrian flux were the only other ones I found . Used them in the past but now about 50% more expensive.
Surely if you are only occasionally (not normally) parked on the street it doesn't count ?

I tried them last year when I started this thread. https://wildcamping.co.uk/threads/motorhome-insurance-parked-on-the-road-side.100908/

Couldnt get their site to work but ill try again.

Trouble is the van can be out front on the road for maybe a week or two, sometimes more so its not worth the risk. Its a quiet village road but it just takes one tractor to get a bit carried away or on occasion if the A66 gets blocked some try to come through as a work around. You just never know.
