Insurance is a scam????

I've (Liz) decided to go with Lexham as last year, I can't know AIB others out there will provide less and charge more, but Lexham get good reviews and we can afford the premium so I'll instigate that later today.

Thanks all for your helpful input :) :)

Car renewal just arrived too for next month, £234.55 this new ruling by .gov is making a difference, not before time.

especially as it was a claim for repairs to gates, and nothing to do with a vehicle.
It might make sense to a sensible person. My van insurance was increased after the fact once they discovered I'd had that claim. I never mentioned it when asking for a quote as I thought it wasn't a motor claim. I tried to argue it was not a motor claim but they insisted it was.

guess I am not a sensible person as your explanation doesn't enlighten me at all.
Unless you made a claim on your vehicle insurance for damage to your gates, which makes no sense at all. (a sensible person if making a claim for gates would maybe have claimed via their buildings insurance and let the underwriters persue the other party to get payment? maybe that doesn't make sense to a sensible person?)

Thing is no mater what the claim is for it then goes into a computer held list of claimants and you get bounced on everything across the board without even knowing, big brother is watching. :(

I had this problem on the first renewal with comfort, I was with NFU before and since I had the van. However when my wife got to 70 she would not go for a medical to keep the licence even though she had never ever driven it. I told them and they put the rate up a few hundred to drop her off the policy. When I asked they said it was because me alone driving was riskier than sharing it??????? Cost more to drop off the wife, but costs more to add son because an arsehole had tried to break into his empty van, bending the top side hinge.????? Had I known about the damaged hinge I would have repaired it myself for him.

Penalised for doing the right thing them?!

I'll leave my wife on ours when she gets to 70 as she never drives the MH and will certainly not be keeping her grandmother rights after 70...but I wont tell them that if they don t ask. If she is never going to drive it I cant see how it matters...unless of course they ask in which case I would tell them.

If she is insured to drive and has the licence to drive, should YOU be unable to drive to incapacitation (say broken leg as an example), any recovery cover that would have usually got you home will not come into play as you have another insured driver with you. You can't really say "oh, but she doesn't drive the motorhome" if you have her on the policy as a named driver.
Something to think about.
And the "if they don't ask" bit doesn't cut it either. If you know something that makes a material difference, it is your responsibility to tell the insurers. So if the bit above about incapacitation happens and your wife is still on the policy and you play the "but she doesn't have the right licence" card, you may find yourself in a sticky situation with an insurance policy obtained with knowingly false information.
Your choice.

If she never drives the van, why on earth would she want to go for a medical to prove herself fit for an activity she never does? Sound a bit much to expect her to do so to me?
On my last renewal I dropped the OH off the policy specifically to cover a "recovery through incapacitation" situation as described above as my OH (although licenced to do so) never has and never will drive the motorhome.
Made zero difference to the cost of the policy if she was on it or not.
