I still use Mappoint 2011/Autoroute to import poi's also PoiEdit for importing into the garmin.Although out of dateAutoroute/mappoint still does me to plot and save a route as most roads where we end up stay the same.So offline is good enough for me.Any chance of some Scandinavia poi's ?

Definitely google maps and street view for me, like others have already mentioned it’s nice to have a quick view of the location

Google Maps Satellite view and Streetview are highly desirable but not at the cost of losing offline capability (Maps.Me) and satnav POIs.

Offline vector fine for me, running on a budget means I'm not prepared to sign up for a potentially expensive data package, that's why I use maps.me, I do pre plan at home on Wifi with Street view but often stay in areas that don't have data coverage.
Sorry but you have mentioned expensive data packages before. You can get unlimited data, unlimited texts and unlimited calls for £10 per month. So can I ask how much you pay at the moment per month and what you get for that so that I can see what the difference in price is?

Surely provided POIs (which is now guranteed until 2022 and likely thereafter) in a "kml" file(s) are available then they can be used both on a Satnav and with Maps.me (or other similar) to provide offline data and navigation.
There are many ways to convert kml files to TomTom (OV2) or Garmin (CSV) etc.
For planning a trip (mainly at home) Google maps and streetview are great
Googleearth can also play a part LONG LIVE KML

I would be happy with either, just what suits you Phil. Either way it is a great resource to have

Prefer Google Maps on iPhone, rarely stop anywhere without seeing an image first.
Can we still download POIs for Satnav? If so that gives offline info anyway and saves a lot of number inputting.

Have voted in favour of Google maps with Streetview. Love the new app. Brilliant piece of kit, very well done. 👍

StreetView please for me, to check immediate area (voted); new location app works well.

Aplogies for taking this thread off topic. How do you get the above? The best I have found is id mobile on Three for £8 / month, 10gb data, unused data is rolled over for one month, unlimited calls and texts.

ps I have voted

Phil, before I get in to full blown panic mode, does this mean that the stuff on my sat nag will no longer be supported? I'm sure that I'm not the only techno dinosaur. As you know I rely on you and one of our members to update my devices periodically, but at this point I must offer grateful thanks to Chris for his sterling work guiding us through the UK and Europe and hope that this simple (ish) idiot proof system will still carry on.
Cheers

Don't have a data package txt and calls only sims only no contract, why because i need to keep my costs down so i can enjoy running my van and to pay for my membership to forum i enjoy being part of . Phil £10 is £10 if someone does not want to commit to that outlay each month whether it's affordable or not it is their choice.

Thank you for your reply.
It is your choice how you spend your money and I respect that. I hope that you can respect that I have to use the resources that I have to provide the best possible service to the majority of members. Having Streetview and live data has a greater benefit to the members than offline mapping. For those that want offline mapping, they can use maps.me with our KML files.

Phil all i have said is i would like the to keep the use of the offline files and i don't like extra overheads e.g data cost, other people have also said they would like to retain the offline elements but have not been questioned on this. You instigated the pole and the result is conclusive but we are entitled to an opinion and of course i understand why changes may need to take place but having an opinion is not disrespectful. :)

Sorry, I am not sure where I said that you having an opinion is disrespectful.

I wish I knew how this stuff worked. As time goes on the worse it seems to get. 30 years ago autoroute was wonderful and gave you many route options. Even if you were walking. The moment Microsoft got it, it all went down hill.
After much deliberation I purchased a snooper. Once I figured it out it was good and I liked stopping in people’s gardens when I was only interested in the destination. The dammed thing kept turning itself off and became more and more unwilling to start again.
So after a trip to Italy navigating by phone a new satnav was purchased. This garmin is more pleasant to use, but has next to none of the features I was used to.
So I keep reading about tweaks and additions people do, but am lost on how to do it. Or even should I?
If I wanted to look at the area, depending if it’s possible I use google earth.
So how can these things improve my experience?
