I could hardly believe it - cost of a site

We don't normally donate a kidney (hers of course!) to stay on a site, but if there is a particular place we want to go, I get the scalpel out. Tomorrow we are travelling to Coniston for three nights on a small site next to the Bluebird Cafe and the Bluebird launch site. It is Ā£34 per night and electric is metered. But it fits the bill and she does have a couple of eyes we can sell! Picture below (of the site, not her eyes!)

We have also stayed on a Haven site in Norfolk. Three units, took the kids, for ten pounds a unit per night. It suited the purpose. But it rained constantly while we were there. I suppose we can't blame Haven for that!

I Remember looking round that site when we were over in the Lakes at Outgate over Hawkshead hill just a few miles from there in the early summer. I think then you had to book a week minimum. Great if you had a boat with you but not cheap. We were only there ten days but it was the best ten days weather of the entire summer.

I don't actually think Ive stayed on one. Maybe the one Fazerloz is on at Flamborough but that might have been before Haven took it over. We have used two Park Dean resorts in Devon though. Not quite as cheap but ok. I don't go anywhere near their shops or bars though.
Its been a Haven site for quite a few years now. We've bailed out early and left this afternoon due to heavy rain and over 50mph winds tonight. We were due off in the morning anyway. Bars are ok and the shops are Co op with very little price difference really.

Did you get to see the Club singer though! :D

Kingston Stacey Motorhome site. Ā£30 a night in October to park on someone's gravel.
"Please note, there are NO toilet or shower facilities at this site"

Or you can go to Germany for an average of ā‚¬0.50c a night including water and toilet disposal and swimming in the river.

Needless to say I'm not going to Kingston Stacey motorhome site, I'll just park somewhere I'll find on the app.
The pity of it is that there will be people who think that parking for a night at Ā£30 is the going rate, and they will pay it. No wonder we have no tourists from Europe.
Even a tenner would be pushing it...

And moaners wonder why we freepark!

Pub stops is another expensive one as well if you have to eat to stay When we bought first van 17 yrs ago we had 2 vouchers for overnight on sites which we used and have never been on a site since. The closest we've been is CCP's in France
Can't figure out why this site is called Wildcamping when so many on hereclearly stump up for campsites- why? I have no clue....

I guess it depends on where you are and for how long. Its increasingly difficult to find "nice" wild spots in the UK that are still available and not over subscribed. Then it depends what kind of touring you do. Ive done three very long trips of the UK the last three summers (still on one now) and I like to stay in one place for ages these days so wilding unless you want to become one of these vans that end up in the local paper who seem to have taken up residence is out of the question. There are one or two spots in the Lake district ill use but they literally are one or two now and a few up in Scotland but thats about it for me now.

Im stumping up for a top notch site near Woolacombe now where we have been for three weeks so far because there really isnt a better alternative and scrabbling around for power this time of year is really not my idea of fun. Having said that because we are staying a while and book a week at a time I keep getting very good discounts. Next week is costing me Ā£11.80 a night or something like that for a fully serviced pitch with EHU and all the facilities. Next year it will be Europe and ill be back to hunting out places like this. :D

Just out of interest, we did a pub stop last night just outside Blackpool, 5 mins from the bloominations and it was terrific. Plenty of space and free. We had a meal too, Ā£11.99 for two !!!! together half a beer and a medium Pino Grig Ā£17.00. As I said, just out of interested

It's called being flexible and doing what you want to do at that time given your circumstances. I have no idea what the total membership of this forum is but a thread about site prices has only got a response from roughly 20 members I wouldnt think that would be classed as "when so many". Just because people post on here does not mean they have to Wildcamp or as you refer to it as freepark 100% of the time.
Anyway I am sure I will be fine wilding on Marton Mere at Ā£10 inc ehu pn at this time of year. ;)

Blimey! That is good value these days Peter. You cant even get Fish and Chips from a takeaway for Ā£12 now! Ā£18.50 in Penzance a few weeks back.

I know one campsite in Portugal, Espiche, near Lagos.
Last winter they were charging ā‚¬50 a night, minimum 7 nights!
You can hire a villa with private pool for less.
