HYmer Camp electric troubles

I have a Hymer campswing, Yreg, after recently having some damp repaired above the sink it came back with the light under the cupboard under the sink not working.

Repairers told me the bulb must have gone, I knew this wasnt the case but have ordered a bulb. Since being away at the weekend I have now worked out that the fridge ignition is not working as well as two lights above the dinette and the lights on the skylight. They are obviously all linked, some of the 12v is working (pump, toilet light and another light on the passenger side) so it is connected but they have either not connected part of the wiring back or blown a fuse maybe.

Has anybody any suggestions of what they may have done please or where my fuse box is to check that

I dont even know where my fuses are :ninja: I suppose I am being lazy by asking on here but both my knowledge and physical strength and stamina are limited so was hoping somebody might point me in the right direction

Do you not have the Hymer Handbook. It's a good idea to give a rough idea of whereabouts you are based in your profile you might find a member near you would offer to help you

I am in Cheshire and yes I do have a handbook but it is in German and a wiring diagram on which the writing is so tiny and faint I cant even read the German.

I am so fed up with things going wrong with the van, first it needed a new large skylight, then this leak which turned out to be a disaster of a job, next it needed a new exhaust at the MOT then this weekend just gone the window above the cab just blew out while on the motorway

You seem to have had a very bad run of luck here what about the dealer you bought it from. With a bit of better luck there may be a Hymer owner come along in a minute or two and explain where you might find the fuses.

the 12v fuses are on the left hand side of the dash. if you were sitting
in the left hand seat they are just in front of your left knee. beside the
red cut off switch.

I think you’ll find you have an Elektrobloc under the driver or passenger seat. All the fuses are on the front of that unit and see marked for their circuits albeit in German. Google translate might help.

It's often possible to find English language pdf manuals online - a good search engine, appropriate keywords (including model number) and Robert is your parent's brother.

when you check them make sure it has a good connection by turning it
in the holder. or as trev says check with a meter at each side of the fuse.
because they can look ok to the eye but have a poor connection.

Just found this manual which covers all the variants of the 544 in English. The electrical stuff starts around page 110 and the fuse positions/ratings from page 125.

By taking each fuse out of its holder, you can physically check that it is in one piece and check with a multimeter (they are not too costly and can save you £s in the long run).

Not watched it in detail when I searched for something hopefully reliable to link to but have two comments:

1) This guy generally posts good quality no nonsense videos about RVing, so on that basis, I would expect this video to be of a similar reliable quality.
2) When skimming it, I noticed he has a Fluke DMM. Now in my experience, the people who have Flukes tend to be professionals in the electrical area and know what they are doing and want good kit to suit, so what they say should be taken as fairly reliable (IMO anyway. I have had my own Fluke DMM for well over 30 years now and it is still going strong)

Hmm. He has a Fluke, but does he have an Avo? I only have an Avo Minor now: the big one is long replaced.

I do have a clamp meter similar to the one he thinks is great value (and I agree), though mine has a neat probe holder that his lacks.

I skipped on to see his surge protector at about 3:20 and you can see that the wiring on his RV is horrific. The mains cable from the surge protector box is single-core cable (itself an no-no in a vehicle) and it is unsupported as it kinks and twists out of view. Erk!

I have noticed that solid-core cable - as used in Domestic installations - does often feature on US RV builds on YouTube videos, and probably due to that, is seen on some UK ones. Not good and a problem waiting to surface. I think his is basically a commercial RV and wiring installed by which ever manufacturer build it I suppose? (which makes you wonder!)

I'll have to have a view of the full video (as mentioned, not watched it in any detail)
