How do you reserve your spot on site when heading out for the day in the van?

Have a laminated sign with Reg number that we leave pinned to the ground along with any levelling ramps used and our doormats. Obviously only on paid-for sites.

We used to have an old table which we once used as a marker on a pitch-where-you-like site. We returned to site to find a family on our pitch using our table and chairs. Bar-stewards. They claimed they thought it was just junk left behind, although clearly good enough junk for them to “adopt” 🤣😂🤣. I have to confess to a sense of humour failure.

As someone who has worked on sites for 5 years now, the most unusual pitch marker I've seen yet was a child's bike with a large pair of men's Y fronts draped over the handlebars. Nobody was taking THAT pitch!

You see thats a good idea. As is leaving a guitar, maybe a massive speaker with empty cans of Special brew etc strewn about. Not only will you reserve your own pitch you will have no neighbours for 100 yards in each direction.

I just leave my hook up lead in place with a plastic bag around the live end. I also leave the step in place.
It’s not a good idea to leave the lead plugged in though. If it rains and, despite the plastic bag, or because it’s held water in it, you are then picking up a wet live lead. Most sites I’ve worked on the site staff will usually unplug them if they see it.

The last couple of C&CC sites we've visited have asked that we mark pitch if going out, not sure if this is to aid wardens when showing new arrivals to pitches, or to save the agro of getting interlopers to move.
Both! 😉😆

Depends how well you wrap it. I wouldn't leave one in a puddle, but I've never had one unplugged.

...I should add that my EHU is a camping version with 3 covered sockets and a built in RCD at the live end.

Also, I've seen advice (which seems sound to me) that you should plug in at the pillar last and unplug at the pillar first. That way, you're not plugging or unplugging a live lead into/from the van.

We seldom move when pitched however I used to carry a bucket with the MH reg number painted on it. Just fill with water so it wont bow away plus it can be used on any surface as it doesn't need pegging in like some signs; and is also lightweight to carry.

Either put a towel on it, like the Jerries do - or try this?
