It seems that the government are promising power outages in the winter, they will be at peak times when the kids and parents come home . 4-9pm etc. sothe the power out will mean no power for the central heating although gas is going to be there it cannot work without a small current for the pump , timer, and fans etc.
We have another source able to cover that small load with an inverter and a leisure battery, using a small chrger when the power is on again, most of us have these already so it might be wise to have a provision to run the heating off a three pin plug into the inverter.
Just a suggestion that might save some lives. We know what they are up to with the present sodabouts that are going on at the moment.

I'll be stocking up on wood for the logburner all summer.
I have about two ton of logs awaiting splitting and a log shed full already split. Plenty of ash trees lying down in my wood as future fuel.

Oil heating which has been installed properly will not be easy to use a plug as its wired direct from the fuse board to the control programmer, but if you have the in power line from the main fuse directed through a 2 position switch then a feed line from an inverter or genny will be able to service the house, you will require a beeper or lamp to let you know when the mains comes on line again, just remember not to overload the feed.

Good that will help with the bill our qoute has more than doubled when our present contract ends next month

Our main source of heating is a multifuel stove, next winter is already catered for.
If you need to rely on mains then a BEV with V2H is a good bet.

Problem here is wood costs more than oil or electric, the English nicked all our wood for battle ships. 😂

Do you know what size inverter is needed and would a modified sine wave work please?

Hopefully my gas fire and gas wall heater do not need electric so will not be affected and still work.

I will be hugely surprised if this happens.

When we lived in the countryside we often had power cuts. I still have the 3kva generator to supply the house. You need to disconnect from the grid first, or you power supply will be very unhappy. Then you can connect the generator. With 3kva the most you can run is a kettle. The oil fired central heating works just fine. As does the propane cooker.
It's nothing new, you just have to watch for the neighbours lights to come on showing you it's ok to connect to the grid. Turn the generator off first, they don't like it.

You require one of these on the grid input to fuse box.
