Holmfirth?

Holme Moss would be my choice, we go up there if we fancy a night away. Only 8-10 miles from us. Fantastic views.

Do you think it would be Ok in the Co-op Helen? It sounds dead convenient, but you would get a ticket in our local co-op they have cameras in and out and if you stay more than 2 hours ticket comes through post!!

It isn't actually the coops car park it is the main car park for visiting holmfirth, and as it isn't an area that gets inandated with motorhomes their aren't any restrictions in place

Stayed there myself in August no restrictions at all is a bit busy during day as it is right in the centre of the lovely village but it is a great place to go places from ideal for where you are going you will easily stagger or roll back from there to the car park pay a visit to nora battys cafe they do a spanking breky

Many thanks for the info Helen and also the offer to stay outside yours, much appreciated :)

Thanks to everyone for all the really helpful suggestions, we are going to try for the car park behind the co-op and if not Holme Moss or Castle Hill and get taxi back. Really grateful for all the kind offers of drives etc , so kind of everyone and much appreciated :)

Those days. Mike Poynor , I worked for a chap called Dario Bellandini oodles of experience in his own right could tell the tale ..on reflection you couldn't bottle it they entered a room anything could happen , both men incredibly funny...I reflect and now realise just how lucky I was ..Both could charm birds from the trees , a privilidge to be part of the journey .....most jobs you can tell a funny tale or two ...I have one from my time with Mike I might share I know for a fact he shared with Roy Clarke for is book but I fear not published I hope I can do justice, one of those moments at the time what the flippin eck afterwards funny...all I will say is it is true don't work with animals chaos didn't enter the
equation ...

PS I once took a gaggle of miscreant youths to a place near Todmorden I can t remember the name but was an old mill with a pond another tale another area of Yorks neglected

Do tell it Channa, would love to hear, make new thread though or it won't get seen

Not sure where that old millpond is, was it on hills below Stoodley Pike?? :)

It could well have been , we had a group of young people on a outward bound style jolly

Sadly this isn't correct.

As is usually the case with council owned car parks this one is included in Kirklees Council's Off Street Parking Places Order which prohibits sleeping, camping, cooking or eating (!).

There is another place you could try about 1/4 from the picture drome, if you drive into the centre then take the A635 new Mill road out of Holmfirth about 1/4 miles up that road there is a piece of land that people use for parking on, it used to be a Vauxhall main dealers but got pulled down years ago and now is just used by locals parking their cars there

So that would be an easy walk Helen, thank you very much for the local info, much appreciated :)

try 53.5753521,-1.7808361
I know that area doesn't get used..it may be the same old dealership spoken about?

Just snuck on Google maps Rod and that looks perfect, and very likely is same one Helen was referring to!! Only one thing I just thought about - we are coming on Nov 4th - it won't be a likely bonfire site will it?? :)

That I don't know!!..but a quick scout possibly as you come into Holmfirth will show any potential construction of a bonfire..its wise to have a back up location...
The hill does look stumblingly steep when intoxicated!!

No it won’t be a bonfire site as some of the locals use it for parking their cars on over night

Further out car park at top of Holme moss ...possible company from the odd ned in a corsa etc BUT cracking views

Spent last night up at Holme moss, the view is spectacular,

Those neds are hard core, it was lashing down with rain and blowing a hooley, but they where still out drinking (they didn't bother us), Mrs G picked up the bottles this morning.

Just one point against Holme Moss perhaps, I have read a couple of accounts of people convinced the radio transmitter caused interference to the immobilisers on their vehicles ...Stopped myself never had a problem but worth mentioning. ( no gassings lol before some smart arse plays up )
