We always have three "emergency meals" in the MoHo just in case!
We have 3 because after 3 days we will need civilization to empty the cassette, and that means we can shop again.

To be classed as an emergency meal it must
a) last a long time at room temperature (so nothing with a best before less than a year)
b) not require 230v to cook
c) be something SWMBO likes (so no rice or pasta)

I did a check the other day and we have two emergency meals
1) Tinned Potatoes; tinned Salmon and tinned Artichoke Hearts
2) Sainsburys instant Mash (the best instant mash); tinned Haggis; and Ratatouille

But since I turned 75 last week my memory has gone and I can't remember what the third meal was.
Whatever it was we must have eaten it because it is no longer in the cupboard.

Suggestions please

Tinned ham is always a good fallback. Savoury rice, tinned peas or beans?

I think you can still get the 'Look What We Found' meals in certain places, they have a shelf life of 1 year.

We keep foil packs of Rosti potatoes from Lidl well over 12 mths shelf life and tinned stewing steak and OXO cubes, but our favourite is a tin of Heinz spagbol mixed with a tin of Heinz mulagatoni soup with plenty of bread for dunking tastes like spicy noodle soup 😋😋

I carry freeze dried expedition food that only require hot water adding to the food bag. ( reconstituted in the bag)They will keep for at least five years. Not cheap but an excellent product. See: www.expeditionfoods.com

Whilst I see that the 5 year sachets are expensive, it looks like the 25 year cases of 6 tins at 13 servings per tin works out at less than £1 per serving?

I'm sorry to challenge your opening statement, about which you are obviously very sure, but ......... Sainsbury's instant mash cannot possibly be as good as Idahoan Perfect Mash, ideally the cheesy one, usually obtainable in Lidl or Asda and probably other outlets.
Give it a try one day and you might even agree.

Yes, I've also used the Idahoan Mash. I usually add a little extra butter, pepper and salt but that's just me. It's good stuff to keep in the van.

Tinned Mackerel is another cheap breakfast/lunch with a long shelf life. Lovely on toast.
