Just wondered my old Hymer ,I never drain the system and Jeff was a bit wary when I said I had filled the old girl with waters etc ,this is for next weekend away but as I said to him I’ve never ever had any issues with it even up glencoe in really low temps.
So I went out late last night (very cold)to check her and still sound as a pound no issues ,it’s never dumped the water or ought froze up,I hope I’m not tempting fate but I’ve never drained or added anything ,she is amazing .

How blinking sad eh,mines is 24 year old and solid ,was looking at vans the other weekend and inho scary,I know it’s all been discussed many times ,just like years ago in the motor trade Nissan copied ford and look now how that’s went
How sad !

Must agree with Charlie, if it's due to drop below -3 then I make sure all drained down, usually ok to -5ish but as we've had a burst tap due to freezing then I don't give it chance to do it again. We've got a crappy Swift .... I love it really. :lol-053::lol-053:
Edit: Only thing I wish it had was separate tank for flushing loo same as the Elddis had, we could at least carry on using it properly.

I tend to empty the tanks then run antifreeze (the stuff that's okay for drinking water systems) through the pipes.

OMG, I daren't go out and look. We put some water in for last week's meet and I have forgotten to drain down. On a positive note, I didn't drain the flush water and that's been ok. Not best practice though.

Our Auto Trail has got tank heaters fitted and they have been on all weekend , just checked the van and all ok ;)

Fingers crossed for you Sue

Why not blow all the water out ?

It is so much easier than doing repairs :rolleyes2::rolleyes2::rolleyes2:

Ours has dumped the boiler and must be frozen in the tank as the pump will not pull any water through. Time will tell.

But sadly true as even a brand new autosleeper with Alde heating was frozen up here , owners getting rid at 10 months old and bought another Hymer !
Most of the British vans here have been frozen up on both water and waste

Strange that you mention Autosleeper. I have a friend with an Autosleeper less than a year old who had pipes freeze whilst the van was in use in the recent snow, this despite the van allegedly being winterised. So far there has been no sign of any help from the manufacturer or dealer.
My British made Bentley has never had a problem when used down to -15.

Now this has to stop right now let’s pick it back up around 25 November I’ve had enough winter talk no more please 😤🤬😥😥 can we change the subject to air con not being cold enough 😎😎

Hopefully next week when we are in Spain, I am also hoping to be complaining that it is too hot

there’s certainly no fear of you complaining it’s too hot at the moment we’re in cullera now although not anything like home its only 17 deg with a strong wind blowing our best weather was mid january till late feb we left the rain in portugal to come to spain early march and although dry we have only sat out half the time 20mph winds standard it seems

I had forgotten about the water system in my Euromobil, until the cold weather arrived. I went out to the van in the snow to open taps and take the peg off the heater dump valve :( and after a few days of the cold spell and a slight thaw the water started dripping out of the heater valve and emptied it.
I checked the whole water and heater system the following day, and happy to say there does not seem to be any damage. The test will be at Easter when we go for a weekend away.
I don't think I shall buying any other van, unless it comes from the continent and has a similar insulation spec. :)
