Hank the Tanks Dodgy battery and solar system

Ah I see. You need one of these then. Ignore the Halfords brand name. Its a genuine Vic&Bob charger. You can always tell as they are the blue ones. They match those batteries I posted earlier so I would get both if I were you. That gauge is spot on as well. No more faffing with stupid Bluepuff apps.

£299 each them. Be quick or Merl will ave em and stick em on Ebay.

That's what I like about this forum, members are willing to go the extra mile to help one another. Are there any savings to be made if I don't take the tin of flux.

This may be a mistake but I
No sorry. Job lot. Total bargain. Don't mess about or Merl or Kev will have em!
This may be a mistake but I think I will give them a a miss as you seem to be pressurising me to buy them. I need a little time out to think about them. I will head into the NY Moors to think about your offer, hopefully my solar will suffice to keep my batteries charged. That Meri chap must know his onions if he has sorted you and Kev and is going to do Rob.

The tenuous link here is electrics, I just wanted to extend interest in this thread :)

Has the world gone completely mad? I have been looking at electric narrowboats and I just can't understand why. All the ones I have seen have diesel generators, usually diesel heating and even diesel cooking. Why add all the electrical complexity and still run off diesel???

What am I missing?

I dunno why I bother coming on here. Obviously I am now the forum battery and solar guru and Merl and Bewilderbus have nothing on me now yet you spurn my advice and excellent offer. Don't blame me when your toaster packs up mid toast on the North Yorkshire moors. Watch out for lunatics on Suzuki Vstroms up there an all. Do you keep any cider on board?

Have you looked at the new plastic ones at all.

Big discount on the license for electric engined boats Neil which can run to hundreds of pounds on a long Narrowboat.

Also a huge long roof so you can get several Kw of solar up top and you would be saving a fortune in fuel.

Ahhh, so it's to fiddle the license fee? Here was me thinking it was eco-scamming lol

One second hand boat I looked at the other day had 1060W solar on the roof Rob, can't see it replacing a generator in an electric boat for most of the year. Then again the motors in boats may be a lot less power hungry than cars

Buy yourself one of these Neil - all electric although it still has a generator but I don't know what that runs off. Loads of solar on the roof.

Bearing in mind even a fully loaded 72ft boat can be fairly easily pulled by one human let alone one horse ....

They don't need a large motor ....

I have to say the idea of a fully electric narrow boat would be very appealing ...
Even JUST for the silent cruising ...let alone not having the diesel exhaust smell .

Bloody hell! Thats stunning. All Victron stuff as well I see. :D

I wonder how much it costs. I know nothing about narrow boats (not so narrow this one) but ill take a stab at £300k.

I would say more than that Barry.

you can pay £250k for a similar sized luxury diesel wide beam but this one's on another level.

According to this they "start" at around £350k but a lot more for all the extras.

I would think that genny will do 5lph if not more.

I miss heard him I thought he said 30 not 13

Right you lot we need to show a lot more respect to Merlin if you please, I was getting zero alternateor charge into the LB, and seeing he was the last one near it I blamed him and went down to claim on the warranty,

It's debatable, but he may have accidentally disturbed the neg lead on the Durite, I couldn't get a peep out of it, and after some extreme farming about neither could he so or investigations revealed that the twat who fitted it had less clue than our dear Barry which sweet FA of course, there are only six connections on it Inc Fusing, and three of them fell off, two were positives, one next to the VB earth post, that could have been mega interesting being hidden under the floor with a 100a fuse, but the lovely Merlin performed his magic again and tis fixed.

I did try to sort it myself but said twat's had put it in the most awkward place, o just could get to.it myself and they used totally the wrong crimps, yellow ones in 16mm2 cable so Merlin had to make do with them.it being Sunday, and we're on the morning ferry to France and he soldered it all up properly.
