Thank you @Sharpie , I find it helpful when someone takes the the time and trouble to properly explain their reasoning.

I agree with many of the posts.
You do not ned an inverter
  • Get A USB powered charger/toothbrush
  • Many 12V to 19V from many sources for Laptop eg https://www.power4laptops.co.uk/
  • I got a new charger for the battery for my Old Canon Camera..It is USB powered
Pure sine wave are expensive
Both Pure Sine Wave and Modified are inefficient for most purposes
If you have extra batteries and solar then careful use of an inverter will not drain batteries too much
BUT WHY when there are 12V DC alternatives

Totally agree.

The problems start when people decide that they are pretty smart and have saved money by buying an electrical gizmo on ebay for pennies. They seem to have missed the news that many ebay items are dangerous fakes. The same tat they are buying is the sort of fake stuff confiscated by Trading Standards and the sellers prosecuted. That's why they are sold on ebay and other sites like Amazon, as it's safer for the seller.

Yes to Post#62 Maingate
Buy the gizmos From the original supplier or the likes of DURACELL
I now do not need 240V supply
Power4laptops are good and give a guarantee/warranty
I still have a 150Watt (Ring) inverter which I will keep as it is small although it could go now !

I also have a Ring 150W inverter which is used very rarely now. It mainly powered a Sky digibox when I carried a freestanding dish. Now only used for an old Laptop because I could not find the correct connector for my 12 volt to 19 volt charger.

Fair points...but I've bought it now! It was fifty ish quid, which I thought was ok. I'm in a sort of transitional situation; living in my old T3 camper, which is lovely but lacks room and equipment. I've got a newer LPG-powered Transit that I want to 'upsize' into (which has solar, extra batteries, dedicated 19V and 12V sockets, modern cooker, loadsa room etc) but there are complications....as per usual in life. So I'm just trying at the mo to cobble together a workable tiny home with as much in the way of stuff that I already own that will just plug in and so forth. I'm also a bit short of leisure time, with work/childcare some days/finding a peaceful spot to sleep taking a lot of my attention. I'm sure things will even out soon...hah

I hope things work out well for you.
