Fiat starter.

I just turn the key it starts, if the glow plugs come on they can't be doing much if the engine is already running, we do the same on the car.
That was sort of my point ....

Same with my works van ...
there's no seperate position to hold the key in for the plugs ..
They just work or don't as the ecu tells them .
 
Ah, I see what you mean, but when my screen is frozen I assume the engine will need a bit of help so I turn the ign, and wait for the glow plug light to go out, which it does in 10 or so seconds, I may if it's really cold do that a few times just so it takes the strain of the starter motor.
