I fitted some air bags on the suspension on the van this morning, Fiat Ducato. Nice and easy the hardest part was getting up and down off the floor. 4 bar gave approx 50mm lift on the van with no water in any tanks and 1/2 tank of fuel. They look like they will do a job when I hang the bike on the back for the TT.

So you will no longer be troubled by 'soggy bottom' :lol-049::lol-049: Good job though:goodluck:

How exactly do you set this up once fitted ?

Load vehicle then pressure up to level vehicle ?

Just curious.

Same here, i can do mine side to side as well to account for most the furniture being down one side :mad2:

I think I could well change mine to that system, its only a couple of fittings. The one I have just fitted is just a tee between the two bags so there is nothing to stop air shunting from one bag to the other on corners. The van stands very level on is own without having different pressures in each . I will see how it goes for now I think.

That seems like a pretty good deal and I may go for that on mine in the future, mine's had MAD springs fitted at some point in the past but I'm not sure they do much.

When i researched air assist most people seemed to be using 35 - 50 psi. The main theme was , higher pressure for higher motorway speeds and lower speed for comfort.
I started at 35 psi, and found it still rolled on roundabouts ( but not as much as pre-air assist)
Tried 50 psi, but found ride a bit harsh ( bit like a broken spring and running on bump stop).
Run it now at 40 psi with low water in tank to 45 psi with full water tank.
have a try at different pressures ( as said above over 10 psi but less than 75 psi).

I brought the Dunlop system from Marcle leisure.
Very good quality and good clear instructions.

Have seen mention of a few people who had them fitted at motorhome shows, some for as little as £40 if brought at show.

Have fitted exactly the same air bags on my Hymer, and think they are fantastic! Running at the moment at 40 psi, but going to try 45 psi next time out What a difference in the ride quality!!
Regards Rog.

Running at the moment with 25psi and can tell a difference already as far as body roll is concerned. I intend to put the bike on the back tomorrow weather permitting and will see how it looks. This has lifted rear wheel arch by 10mm.

Just had the rack and bike on the back of the van with 25psi the van only dropped 5mm at the rear wheel arch so that looks ok . I now just need to alter the rack a little, make some wheel stops and some more tie down points and then we should be good to go. IoM here we come. :yeahthat:

Wouldn't be without my Dunlop air suspension from Marcle leisure. I keep them at 40-45psi, perfect! The difference in handling is amazing! :yeahthat:

BUMP.................anyone know or hazard an answer on last para below, or should I take a chance and cobble something up to make fit?

It might be in here Fiat Ducato - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The way i read it the 1st generation ran from 1981 - 1993 and the 2nd generation ran from 1994 - 2006.

There is a very good chance that the chassis changed as well and seeing as yours is a 1994 reg it`s right on the change over period.

If it was registered in 1994 there`s a very good chance it`s actually a 1992 / 1993 model.

Is this also when they changed from column change to dash mounted change ?

If it did then where the gear change is situated would determine which chassis it has even though it`s a 94 reg.

I do not have any experience of these models and it`s only a thought.

If what i`ve said is complete gibberish  then please ignore & dispose of this post as you think fit :hammer:

No, it is spot on mate, makes perfect sense, thank you!! I'll have nosey underneath at the weekend, check out chassis around leaf spring area. OP ebay source really are a decent prices and, I could do with beefing up suspension prior to France this summer. If necessary, I could possibly makes changes to fixing brackets to suit my year, as I reckon (without looking) fixing may be the issue from old MK to new MK?

Thanks again n cheers.

You are very welcome sir

Its difficult to tell from your photos but you could possibly run into height issues if you intend fitting them there. If no height issues all you would need is a decent piece of flat bar across both bump stop brkts, with good packings at both end of the axle. The bags I have clamp to the leaf springs, there would be no reason not to clamp them to piece of flat. Hopefully your bump stops are fastened on by a single 10mm bolt in the centre line of the axle. Hope you can decipher this and is some help.
