ferry pricing

we always go on CC website to make comparison.

I have never found the tunnel cheaper, far from it.

Dont know where some of you are getting your prices from. I dont think I have ever paid more than £45 each way for a ferry to Calais or Dunkirk. 7.5 metre van, 2 of us.

Never got anywhere near that on the tunnel. We tend to use P&O mainly. Usually travel out about 4 or 5pm and back about 10am but I never book the return until a few days before.

We are going with P&O, Dover 11th May @ 10-15 out and Calais 19th June @ 09-50 return £108, which I think is pretty reasonable. We booked it a couple of weeks ago via aferry.co.uk

you get a nice sea trip thrown in instead of being stuffed down a tunnel.

I quite like a nice sea trip myself, but the last ferry we had out of Calais was at 7:30am, it was blowing over force 9 and the ferry before ours had taken 6 hours to cross from Dover to Calais. Think I will be taking the tunnel in future, so long as we can keep getting the Tesco points:)

Did one like that 20 odd years ago. Arrived just before 9pm for a 11pm ferry only to be told there probably wouldn't be one and if we were quick they could get us on the one that was just about to depart. We got out onto the car deck and it was virtually deserted. Couple of guys came over and strapped the car down to the deck.

We went up top and there were a few people about but not many. Sat in the cafe and got hungry so went over to get a breakfast. My wife asked how I could possibly eat with everything and everybody sliding around all over the place. Guy who served me said if I wanted seconds or thirds just help yourself because if it's not eaten it just goes over the side.

Must admit it was a great breakfast at 10pm with seconds and thirds.

Took hours to cross and boy was it blowing. We followed another ferry over and we had to wait OUTSIDE the harbour while they got it into its berth. We sailed down the coast and the the Captain suggested that everyone should sit down while he turned round to go back.

Must admit I quite enjoyed the crossing. Mind you the toilets were in a bit of a mess and there were a number of people looking very ill.

We did a trip like that on the P&O bucket to Cherbourg. It was blowing force nine, and we were in the restaurant at the stern, lifting merrily with each wave. We watched the condiments jump across the table surface two inches at a time, and listened to the (then) duty free booze leaping off the shelves!

It's all part of the rich joys of travel, especially if your a good sailor. The "Seven Sisters" out of Le Havre in a good sea has always been an enriching experience, sadly, no longer to be enjoyed. If you want a similar experience try a rough day on a long crossing across the Irish Sea.

You`ve just reminded me of our first trip to Orkney with John O`Groats Ferries John O' Groats Ferry - Day Tours as foot passengers for a tour :lol-053:

We had a maxi tour booked and when we arrived at the ferry terminal they were almost at the point of cancelling the crossing as the sea was that rough.

They then offered people the chance to go on a different day or a full refund if they didn`t want to go as it was going to go ahead.

The majority of people still went ahead with the trip as we did, several regretted it though

It was very very rough, the wife`s OK in rough seas but i`m not too good however i managed to keep my breakfast down just :scared:

They had to come and re-fill the sick bag containers in the lounge and the smell was awful.

The day itself was fantastic and the Pentland Firth was like a mill pond on the way back with everyone out on the top deck taking pictures:dance:

Hi
Going via Chunnel in about ten weeks time. I spent hours looking for a cheap crossing as I can cross any time. Eventually got fed up and booked via the CC for £136 return as I couldn,t find it any cheaper.
Tompa.

We`re only booking one way this time when we go over in April.

Probably go with AFerry | Compare & Book Ferries to France, Ireland, Spain but i`ll do a quick check around the other sites first.

We're looking for prices on Hull-Rotterdam in April - both the CC online booking, Ferrysavers.com and AFerry | Compare & Book Ferries to France, Ireland, Spain look significantly dearer than booking direct with P&O. If the CC can't match or better P&O price tomorrow, makes you wonder what the point is in the "cheap" agents!

That`s fine, whatever works for you is right for you.

I`ve found that AFerry are normally cheaper than going direct to P&O and the like or through the CC or C&CC etc.

7.5 mtr van, 2 adults, 0 kids, 0 pets and sailing at a sensible time between 9 and 11am both ways.

I'msitting on the Mont St. Michel now waiting to sail and the sea is looking a little turbulent.

I fancied going to Ireland to watch some road racing i thought the ferry prices a joke!

We`ve looked at Ireland as well, spoilt for choice here being in the middle of Liverpool and Heysham.

Then i looked at ferry prices :scared: cheapest i could find for my size of van was just over £400 return at stupid o`clock.

Don`t think we`ll bother
