as i'm retired,i can get on a ferry anytime. so does anyone know of a quicker way of finding the cheapest deal without having to go through each and everyday ? it takes ages !

Well Nigel, Ive trawled thru them all and there is ,I find, little in them all, usual questions ,where from, and dates. Transmanche Ferries, ive tried and that will do for me otherwise you give up the will to live.

Brittany Ferries, Thursday out and Tuesday back generally is the best from Portsmouth plus you can use my code to get 10% off. From Dover I have found that the A ferry site is as good as any and their prices tend to be less than the operators are quoting. As with all these, earlier crossings are cheaper, as are the late night ones, but booking months in advance saves even more. I'm retired too and although I've done many trips to France caravanning, this year will be our first MH trip, going out on the 11th of May, just a few days after the Hereford bun fight. See you there

Try aferry.com

OR if you are going to Calais the eurotunnel booking website is VG for compring prices on a given day and 1 orr 2 either side

After spending ages trying to sort out my requirements on line I emailed the ferry company with my requirements and got it sorted out fast, they even phoned me tio finalise the deal.

Sorry if I'm being dim here, but isn't the tunnel loads cheaper than ferries? Granted you might have to drive further but surely it's worth £100's to take it?

DFDS Dover - Dunkirk Return - 12am out and 3pm return End of June begining of August Return £200 Including the Dog

It's certainly better than having a boat with 3am start to catch the tide. At least we can get up have breakfast and take the dog for a walk.

Often not much in it ferries can often be cheaper

We prefer the tunnel anyway.

Our MH is 7.5 metres (medium)

EuroTunnel do not bother with the details of MH (unlike ferries) so with a longer MH you probably win on EuroT

Last summer we did ferry out £88 and EuroT back again £88

Looking to book this summer direct with EuroT about £165 book using CCC ( if a member) £155 (For a return journey)

Did a comparison today of Newhaven, Calais and Chunnel from my house near Brighton

Newhaven and Chunnel virtually the same price with allowance for extra fuel to drive to Folkestone

Calais Dover ferry was more expensive as they have a less generous length allowance

Is it true still that Easter time will see the resumption of Harwich ferry?

No the tunnel is not a lot cheaper. If we take the dog out of the equasion ferry is £170 and you get a nice sea trip thrown in instead of being stuffed down a tunnel.

Last time I did the short crossing the ferry was half the tunnel price.

I look up Direct Ferries

https://ssl.directferries.com/ferry...=DF10&grid=0&rfid=100&psgr=2&curr=1&retn=True

All you need is to put in your route, date, time and some passenger and vehicle details and you will be given a selection of times and prices.

You can search again on different route or date, like Dover to Dunkirk rather than Calais, and there is a drop down panel of routes for practically every major ferry route in existence.

Looks like a good link thanks for the information I have saved it as a favourite on the computer.

Sensible timings

I agree about crossing at "reasonable" times

Bath the actual prices I gave for last summer ( £88 each way so £176)
and £155 with CCC are based on travelling sometime in the day (2pm out and 11am return).
You can save a bit by juggling the times
Save even more by "going anti-social" ..but why ? Its a Holiday ... I am as keen as most to cut down on costs but "it can get silly"

I look at a few but always go back to CC&C every time as they seem to be 10% cheaper than the direct on line prices and they always offer to check other time and prices for me.
If you can go almost any time like me i always avoid Friday to Mondays and only book one way as i never know return dates.
The best thing i find about the CC&C return booking is their direct booking phone line that you can use a couple of days before or a few hours and get the reference number with no worry's of have to print them out.
This year i used up some old air miles i had laying about for years on the outward trip but returned by the tunnel that is so much better than the ferry and does not suffer from the weather in November.
I am not sure how many more years we have travelling in Europe so I no longer worry about the cost as it is such a small amount in a three month trip, much less than a tank of Diesel.

We use the tunnel now, but for many years when we used the ferry, to save on the cost and to make journey better, we go down to Folkston and spend the night in The Nail Box pub car park and get an early train, when they are cheaper. On our returnee we book a train for just after mid night, again a lot cheaper and it gives us a clear run round the M25 home. As for the actual booking if you are using Tesco vouchers you have to phone and book. I think our next one leave 2 April return 29 June with £15 of Tesco vouchers was £105.

Hi, Just booked ferry Dover Calais return.

6.30 on a Sunday evening in late April, return 8.30 Monday morning early June. £112.

No complaints.

Dover-Dunkurk is usually cheapest, depends where you are heading though.
