EU Pet Passports no longer valid for UK residents

Leshuttle now say it's AHC's. Check their website if travelling. BF still accepting PP's.

The safest thing is to get an AHC. Otherwise keep checking with your carrier and prepare to get an AHC if needed. The word is that the "transition" period will end soon. If the carrier won't let you on without an AHC then you have to get one.

Of course, everyone could just lie and say they are ordinarily resident in the EU and therefore the PP is valid to travel from UK to EU.

Thinking of doing a short trip to Brittany next month.
Anyone have any more updates on the AHC/EU passport ?

Yes. The legal position is more complex than most people are interpreting, and people with a lot more expertise than me are arguing whether existing passports are still valid (the issue of new passports seems clear, they are not to be issued non-EU residents). As of today, the French douane website still says EU passports are accepted for entry, without any mention of conditions.

The tunnel seems to still be accepting passports but other carriers aren't.

There is some scaremongering about whether EU vets can enter the return-to-UK worming details on passports; but since there is no doubt that they are valid for entry into the UK (the controversy is about entry into the EU) I can't see any basis for this, and nobody so far has shown me anything other than anecdotes.

Honestly, if I were going over next week I'd probably get a cheap AHC. I would be spitting feathers, but for the sake of £99 I would probably not risk the hassle.

We're off next month too. I say use our French passport missis says we must get a AHC. 🤔
As things stand right now, if you are using the tunnel, they may still accept the passport.

If you have the time to delay your trip if you do need get an AHC, or if you feel confident to rely on the link I posted above, go for it. I'd love to have the argument with border control but I'm a bit risk averse so regardless of how sure I am of the validity of the passport, I'd just pay the £99 to be hassle free.

I hate myself too sometimes.

Just checked DFDS website which refers to important information since 22nd April; and then links to UK Gov website https://www.gov.uk/taking-your-pet-abroad which says that AHC is required.

Part of the legal argument is that the UK government is putting its own interpretation on EU legislation, and that is outside its remit. If you look at the French government website, for example, it says a pet passport is in fact an acceptable document.

To further muddy the waters, someone submitted a FOI request to APHA, who issued the guidance, for 'all information used or considered when drafting the guidance' (note, guidance; and again they are criticised for interpreting EU legislation outside of their remit). The response was that 'the information you have requested is not held by APHA.

I'm all for going with our French Passport, will DFDS ask for our French residency cards?? I think not. I'ts just on the incredible chance we were refused boarding I think I'd be sent to the vets for neutering ☹️

I don't have a dog, or any pet, Jo, *but* the fact that DFDS seem to be taking the UK Gov advice, and it is DFDS that make the decision on whether to accept the EU Passport or just require the AHC, suggests that they will seek the AHC ....

Do you know about the vets that do the AHCs for under £100? They are proper vets, but that's pretty much all they do. You complete all the details online, then they either come to your house or meet you somewhere convenient, scan the dog to make sure the information you have given all knits together, and that's it done. They have low overheads so can keep the cost low and since that's pretty much all they do, the AHC is more likely to be correctly completed. My local vet did two AHCs for me before I got my passport and both had errors, because they only do them once in a blue moon.
