Tick over speed ina vehicle tends to rise if an electrical device is switched on.
In most cars this is easy to observe by running at tick over and switching the heated rear window on.

Are you sure you are not observing tick over with a device that is sometimes off and sometimes on.

Possible suspects are
the fridge on 12v
a B2B device;
some form of heating (seat windows mirrors rather than habitation) .

Definitely nothing switched on

First noticed the problem going round a roundabout , foot off the accelerator then van picked up speed as tick over increased ,

Alternator problem? Check 14.4 volts at tickover, ALSO check Voltage when it is at high tickover too.
If ECU does not see a voltage charge then it raises idle to around 1.2k so charging takes place,

When mine did that it was the accelerator pedal and I had to have it replaced it started just with a faster tick over then in a few days it would just rev up for no reason when at traffic lights or as you say when just driving normally.

This was the problem that I had Annie, I still carry a spare accelerator pedal, how sad is that:rolleyes:

A few threads about it, it should show up on a diagnostic check even if it didn't put the warning light on

Including one where Barry suggested it could be the fly by wire

Yes and I still owe you a dept of gratitude because you found me the accelerator pedal as I was stuck in Scotland when mine went. 💋
