12v to fridge missing

The 12v to your fridge should only be available when the engine's running, usually through a relay operated by the alternator, to ensure you can't flatten the battery(s).
If there's no 12v with the engine running first check that the alternator is charging the vehicle battery. Voltage should be 13.7-14.4v typical, if less than 12.5 there's likely to a problem.
The next most likely problem is corrosion at the back of the fridge. You can usually get to the connections through the bottom vent, and they're prone to serious corrosion from damp. There's a plastic screw connector at the back, often left open to the elements, which is a favourite corrosion point.
If these are OK then the next place to check depends on your 12v system, whether its a Zig or one of those big red boxes from Italy under the seats.

I rarely use mine on 12v, last time I did I forgot it and flattened the batteries.... Anyway, I really wouldn't worry if it's working or not, if you want to keep things cool then just keep the door shut and maybe use an ice block or something, England in April I think you'll be ok lol...

No No No, that is not how they should work, the fridge only works on 12v fed from the alternator when the engine is running.

Hi all

I have just got back from my trip away in north wales,
while I was there I had another look at the fridge and fixed it:cool1:
All it ended up to be was the earth wire under the bonnet needed new connector on it and clean it up abit
now works while engine running like it should :-)
thanks for every ones advice :-)

Bad / Corroded / Loose connections are to blame for a lot of electrical problems and the Earth Connection / Strap is a particular favourite.

They should be the first thing you check before removing and replacing other items.

Oh well, maybe something else flattened the battery on that occasion, bottom line is I don't use it on 12v anyway, seems pretty pointless.

Mine works very well on 12v when driving then just switch it over to Gas or Mains when parked /pitched.

How do you power yours when driving ?

A very common problem as I said before glad you got it sorted. as you were doing your fridge ours give up and had to take it out needed a new igniter and thermal coupling so not so good.

Thank you, now I know what to look at if things don't work in the M/H before messing about with anything else,
Not so good news about your fridge, hope its all working now tho

If I've bothered to switch the gas off then I don't power it with anything!
