electrical dilema!

I was told so so many times that I needed gas to cook with.... And that trying to be off grid was hopeless...
2 years in and we're still all electric even having camped over Xmas/new year etc...
Never been cold or hungry yet...

Is there a post for your build? I'd be interested in learning how you have achieved the "all electric" setup as it sounds a pretty good idea.

Regards,
Del

Well for my pennyworth,
As some might know as a Fulltime Livaboard on The Nest I am a GREAT believer in having as many ways to do something as practically possible, Although I HAVE got a gas installation on board, it is NOT the ‘Go To’ option for Cooking, Heating OR EVEN Hot Water, infact as I have posted elsewhere I Last re filled with Gas OVER a Year ago & Have Still got -

Left, in fact it isn’t even turned on at the Bottle !,,,,,

No I tend to favour Electric via the On board Generator that I run for say 20min in the morning & 40min in the evening (maybe 60min on Clothes washing day) Or EHU At the ‘Fill up & Dump’ Site stay Pit stops I tend to use about every 2 weeks or so.

Well for Banquet life aboard The Nest

Primary MAIN Or Everyday Use
Electric Travel Kettle,
George Forman Grill,
Or
Electric Frying pan.

Secondary or Occasional Use
Combination Microwave/Grill.

Rare or Back up Use
Fitted 4Ring Gas Hob,Grill,Oven Thingy

Emergency Use
Multi Fuel Stove

Portable/ Beach / Emergency Use !
Very Cheap Single Burner with gas canisters

Just got one Combination Poaching / Frying Pan with Lid
Pyrex glass square Microwave Dish.
Stove top Coffee Pot / Kettle

So to conclude My Cider is Cold, My Feet are Warm, My Belly is Full, & The Nest is Comfortable for My Livaboard life.

I can second all that & add that the shower is always hot, I can cook pretty much anything we fancy & my toes are toasty too, I’m a comfortable Hen 😊

Yeap Absolutely!.

Easier to get hold of country wide, rather than have ‘Where to fill up with Gas’ constantly on my mind & I can use the Petrol fuel source via my Genny for MUCH MUCH more than just Cooking & Heating.
Like Running Power Tools & Or Compressors if required (Both on The Nest & Helping Others a few times), Offering a Lead to a Neibour if needed (Done that LOADS of times), Charging Both the Leasure & Main Batteries, TOGETHER with My Power Pack, Phone, Laptop, Hair Clipper, Torches, Drill Driver & Do 3 Loads of Bed/Clothes Washing & Spinning if needed & ALL WHILE Heating the Hot Water, AND Cooking my Tea in the 60min it’s on in the Late Afternoon/ Early Evening.
If on a site stay, Then I Plug in to EHU.
If I’m a Busy place (That I tend to avoid) Then I Use the Gas if I have to !.
For me it’s all about Options !.

Sounds good.
What generator do you have and how loud? (This is NOT an anti-genny post! It is something I might find I need to consider as expect some weekends might use lots of power due to external lighting and power tools, so a recommendation to file away would be useful)

Hi ya,
Yeah I know that Gennies ain’t for everyone, ( Generators ... Grrr! ) But they work as part of my Power Arsenal for my chosen lifestyle as a full time Livaboard.
I will post some Pictures of my installation tomorrow for you to have a look.

2 burner and 3 burners are fab bits of kit...
Mind I've cooked some fab Wok based meals on the ex military No5 too (great big roarer jets)
Sadly it's a behemoth to cart around let alone the way it rips through a bottle of propane lol mP9QjbjMAwm0N7OHWb6TZLQ.jpg

My last festival of last year was after I sold my T5 Camper. So a weekend with no heater, no leisure battery, no fitted gas hob and no fridge or powered coolbox.

But cooking was still possible on top of the Frontier Stove, fed by scrap wood from an old futon frame I took with me :)
Great dual purpose heater/cooker :p
