EcoFlow Wave 2

Found Urban Motorhomer and found Wave 2 videos, but not urbanmotorhomer wave2 video
Here is a review of the Wave 2 from Bob Earnshaw

I like Bobs videos. He doesn't do many reviews, but the ones he does I think reflect his honest opinion of the products.

The only downside, as it were, is he maybe doesn't always test and check things in the way most buyers may use them e.g. He might test/review an Ecoflow, but he is a 100% campsite motorhomer, so his way and style of using one will likely be different to the typical buyer?

I always get concerned when people's clips include "Paid Promotion"

As in ....
would they rate it the same and,in the same way IF it wasn't a "Paid promotion" in any way shape or form .

Middle name cynical ....yup I'm afraid so .

What makes me smile with the YouTube/vanlife folks are the way they just about all tell you the MaxAir fans will do the job, or did until the Wave came out :)

At least two of the YouTube folks have now had proper air on units fitted to their vans which I would think would be the way to go if you can’t do it with fans. Would limit most to places they can get power though. I usually find a tree I can sit under til it cools down but I am only UK

I reckon there wouldn't a fraction of the Jackary type things out there IF the manufacturers hadn't chucked them at pretty much any 'Vanlifer' (jeez that word makes,my teeth itch)
With a youtube/tiktok account ....

It was like a rash ....clever AND very cost effective advertising on their part though admittedly ...

Same with the wave etc I reckon in the warm weather ...

Would as many folks be so glowing IF they had to cough up their own cold hard cash ....Hmmmmm .

I’ve not ordered one, I just feel there’s too many “ifs and but”

I like my EcoFlow Delta Max 2 and River max (especially the river max) but then I get a trade discount, claim the vat back and charge it to a job, but the Wave is too risky for me, I’ll be home in a few weeks and rethink it then.

Thanks for the help everyone.

It is a requirement of Youtube that if someone is reviewing a product they get to keep, that has to be stated. It is a legal thing. It does not mean the review is not 100% independant.

If I posted a review on Youtube of the the heater I got recently in my van, I would put "paid promotion" on the review despite not being paid to review the product as I didn't buy it. It does not mean I am obliged to be positive about it if I didn't think it deserved it.

I know WHY ....

I'm just cynical of reviews where someone got the item for free/reduced cost as I think it can sway the review and prevent it being completely unbiased .

It CAN. Doesn't mean it always DOES. Being overly and constantly cycnical is a little sad :(
If you bothered to watch any of the reviews from Bob Earnshaw, that would help get a flavour of if he is overly gushing on stuff like you do often see with other people.

And of course conversely It doesn't always mean it DOESN'T ...

It might make YOU sad ....but I'm quite happy with my cynical outlook ...
If someone proves me wrong then I'm all the happier .

Paid for promotion smells of bias to me end of .

Whatever. I'm happy to be less cynical :)

Tell you what, if he is posting a biased review, he needs to pull his finger out! I have not watched the full video, but within 2 minutes he said he has requested a replacement unit and I have linke below the video starting at the point he discussed all the drawbacks and issues ...

So what is being suggested here, Phil can be bought for £250. I watched the video and I reckon Phil genuinely reckoned it’s an excellent bit of equipment. I watched his review on the River 2 and what he did was highlight exactly what it could do. Yes he also gave his opinion on it, but surely that’s part of any review.

I have watched Bob Earnshaw being critical in reviews just like the one posted above.

Possibly companies confident in what they are selling are more than happy to have their products tested by competent people who know what they are talking about.

And yes I have watched reviews by some I would put no trust in.

Actually, not sure I should have liked that
Could you,or would you want to get to Zaragoza by weekend?, if yes, then an auction site I frequent is selling Aircon units new boxed mostly and I anticipate a SP of around £100 but it’s collection only from Zarazoga

I would go so far as to say that if certain individuals are reviewing a product, it would put me off even considering it! :D

@Boris7 one thing I had missed is the Wave 2 is designed to cool 10 cubic metre space. Not sure what size of coachbuilt you have but that will certainly be a smaller area than Urban Motorhomers I would have thought. May be a different result in campervans and small motorhomes

I actually bought a small portable unit in a supermarket this morning, plugged it into the EcoFlow and ran the pipe behind the passengers seat the the cab side window, so out of the way.

Fashioned a seal and bobs your uncle, just stopped and it’s 34.9c outside and 18c inside 😁

Solar/engine battery have kept the EcoFlow @ 100%

Now I’ve stopped it will be interesting to see how well the solar holds up

5100 btu on cooling ....looks like about 1.5 kW of cooling ...

That really isn't a lot ....especially IF you have any heat load to move (the ambient heat already in the materials of your motorhome )

Smallest portable units I regularly see are 3.5 kW .

Yes I read that (or similar) reckon my living area with bedroom door closed is something in the region of 18-20 mc

"BTUs" always amuses me. The americans seem to love quoting BRITISH Thermal Units, but in Britain, everything is quoted in kW :).

This video may be of interest for someone who wants off-grid Air Con.

Clarke is a sailor and is a electronics and refridgeration guy who lives on his boat, mostly in the Dominican Republic, where Air conditioning is much more than a nice to have I would say.
Interesting guy and we have conversed about a different topic - Hybrid Battery Systems specifically, and both ended up developing our own controllers to allow LiFePO4 and Lead to work optimally together (mine is much simplier and much cheaper ;) )
