So my cab A/C has packed up, (same as my work van) and it’s going to cost an arm and a leg to fix,

I‘m touring at the moment and the nights are hot, so maybe an EcoFlow Wave 2 is the answer?

Here

I can get one delivered to Lyon where I’ll be in 2 days, should cool the MH day and night, but £1.5k ???

Any thoughts?

Bonkers Boris, dont do it but do send any excess money to me LOL.

I've only had a quick glance at specs, but it looks like it will only last a short time on the battery (1 1/2hrs?) so you would need EHU, in which case you might as well use any freestanding A/C most of which are around £300 to £400 for that output.

And noisy to boot ....most have the compressor inside ,which doesn't lead to a peaceful night's sleep .

Try a couple of ice packs from the fridge in the bed, that should do the trick.

Watch urban motorhomer is it (Darren). So far it hasn’t done much for him and he is one of the Ecoflow influencers

You mention that cab air con has packed up and that it will cost money to fix?

How much money? A fix will be permanent and needs to be done anyway at some point doesn’t it?

The Wave might be interesting if it can run off the cab 12v power socket if it’s to be used whilst you are driving around as a substitute for cab air con. And then in eco mode you get 8 hours of battery life when parked up.

What about charging the battery though?

How are you going to do this?

There are portable 12v air con units available and this might be worth exploring but they will drain batteries.

At least with the Wave a battery is incorporated.

Really it depends on the type of touring you do, how much spare solar capacity you have, and how much hook up you use?

The Wave could work if the circumstances are right.

Charging isn’t an issue, I have 450w solar, on board generator and an EcoFlow Delta Max 2 but the Wave 2 is big and piping the vents etc a bit of a faff.

I’m more concerned that £1,500 will made a hole in the bank that may not be worth it.

You right about the cab A/C but getting it done while away is inconvenient and a lot more than doing it myself once home, in addition my works van A/C broke down in mid June and I’m still awaiting parts (they won’t express / vor parts on vans over 10year old) so I’m expecting the same with the M.H.

Found Urban Motorhomer and found Wave 2 videos, but not urbanmotorhomer wave2 video

Could a portable air con unit be hired from a national chain and returned as you head back to the U.K.?

Really this depends on how long the hire period would be and the draw required through an inverter to run it with AC.

You can pick up portable air con units for £200 in the U.K. Maybe similar equivalent money where you are.

I suppose with the Wave you have it for life then and can be used when parked up. But it is bulky and the vent hoses need an open source to outside air so security concerns if window open?

Unlikely as I’m moving every other day, I need to make a decision today or I’ll not get the Wave delivered to my mate who’s coming down to Lyon in time.

I‘ll probably buy a small mains unit locally and strap it in behind the seats when driving, run it off the EcoFlow and use my big fan.

I like the idea of the wave2 but £1500 is a lot of cold beer, and if mistericemans right about noise then is £1500 poorly spent.

Just to be clear ....
noise wise I'm referring to portable type units typically with the elephants trunk type exhaust hose ...

I've no experience of the eco flow units but from the size I can't imagine they have a very big evaporator in them so wouldn't expect a massive amount of cooling from them .

It’s not a dedicated video, it’s where he is in Europe and took it with him to try and cool the van. I don’t usually watch him but been bored stuck at home at present. I will see if I can find which one (maybe two) where he tries to cool down with it.

First mention of the wave 2 is in the urban motorhomer European Tour episode 3 video around 20 minutes in. Next mention is in episode 5 just after 7 minutes in. They certainly don’t look cool
