Early Dover crossing.

So Canterbury could still be a possibility.

I have received an email off Dover council, it seems we can park in there Carparks overnight as long as we fit in a space (under 6m). The chap also said -

"I must add for future reference that Dover District Council are going to be implementing an over-night charge for motorhomes on Marine Parade and Waterloo Crescent. Not yet but it is in the pipeline."

Interesting.

But if you use the town centre car parks after 6pm there is no charge so you can use as many spaces as you like. Last time there we had a 5th wheeler for company and a quiet peaceful night with a 5 minute drive to the port then breakfast on the ferry.

I’ve used the coach park in Canterbury next to big Sainburys arrived late and left early plenty space right in town handy for any last minute shopping the one that shuts at 8.30 has a sighn directing you there if it’s full or closed.

£15 for 12 hours !!:(

Just been speaking to the man in the office at Canterbury park and ride. He was telling me they have removed the height barriers so that motorhomes can get to the overflow carpark...sounded quite new. He said it was a very quiet area and would be great in the summer. Also mentioned that a lot of vehicles now come in just to empty tanks and fill with water, if done within 20 mins it's free!
Nb. The old gate Inn by the entrance does good food

Barriers were down last year.

Ive been using it regularly over winter,if you arrive after 4pm it's £3 for 24hrs or £4 if arriving before 4pm,when we had the beast from the east I stayed 4 nights and it only cost £16. They even left the toilets open in case any motorhomers got frozen up and needed the facilities, they aren't bothered with the 48hr limit at this time of year and only enforce it during summer. Not sure where the £6 charge comes from,I've never had that one. The barrier always closes at 8.30pm.
If wanting somewhere close to Dover then Farthing Common is a good option.

Have they gone back to the old system were you had 24 hours on the ticket from time of arrival or is the 24 hour period still midnight to midnight in which case if you overnight there you are in two separate 24 hours periods

As far as I know it goes from the time on the ticket,I can't see how they could charge from midnight if the barrier closes at 8.30.

It is charged midnight to midnight with a concession if you arrive after 4pm. If you arrive after 4 pm and leave before midnight it cost £1. Arrive before 4pm and leave after midnight £6 for two days. Buttons!

That`s what i`ve been paying as well since it changed a couple of years back. I was beginning to think i`d lost the plot with the other posts :rolleyes2:

It " used to " be £3 for 24 hours from time of arrival so arriving early afternoon and leaving the next morning only cost £3 now the same costs £6, still cheap IMHO

For Dover Canterbury P&R surely the best

Canterbury P&R surely the best option no matter if it costs £6.
Fresh water and waste disposal (grey black and rubbish).
Easy free bus into the City
Pub nearby
You can leave at anytime and if an early boat probably a very quick journey to the port (Dover)

Not as good for the Tunnel but still useful (IMO)

both times I've used the Canterbury P & R, the exit barrier wouldn't lift up.....
had to unbolt the damned thing, ...exit,... then rebolt it.
not much fun, as I only have the use of my right arm.
wont be trying 3rd time lucky....
that White Horse layby sounds good to me, as I only use the tunnel.

That is really strange, both barriers not working.

I`ve seen a couple of times now one of the exit barriers stuck at 45 degrees, would go up or down :rolleyes2:

What time does it open am, as our ferry is 6-00 am leaving.

Canterbury park and ride is worth using. We always make use of the bus into town.Arriveafter 4 for a charge of£4.
