This has been asked many times, but I can't find any recent information...

Does anyone know the current situation regarding overnighting in/near to Dover. I know the local council were having a major crackdown.

Thanks

I am not going till July but hoping to still over night at Marine Parade as I always have.

Hope that is still an option.

Marine Parade is not accessible. There are major works at the western side and a width limit the other end. However, you can use the Maison Dieu car park in the town and it's free after 6pm, or, buy a ticket if you're early. We did this in December after a phone call to the local council who advised this.

Free bus

It does include bus ride into town and back, also you don't have to hang around till 6pm to avoid daytime parking fee. It was only £6 I think a year or so ago, a good deal really....anyone been there more recently ? Maja

Thanks for the replies, I think we are arriving too late for Canterbury. I believe they close the gates at 8.30. White Cliffs has been mentioned (national trust) although it is frequented by boy racers/doggers (apparently)

£3 per 24 hour period ( midnight to midnight ) so overnight cost £6 unless you arrive after 4pm then the charge for that day is only £1 then it would be £4

Canterbury P&R, so much to offer and within easy reach of Dover. £3 or £6 is absolutely buttons in the overall spend

Canterbury park and ride is a no brainer isn't it.

The website says you can't enter after 8.30pm so unfortunately no good for us. Such a shame.

We are fortunate that we have time on our hands and can meander. I fully understand why early ferries are used and it would be great if Canterbury P&R would be available after 8:30 pm. I am sure it will come as last year they removed the height barriers to allow more use of the main parking area and it was being well used.
It looks like spots are available in Dover so not all is lost.

I`ve seen people still getting into Canterbury as late as 10pm :rolleyes2: but the official last entry time is 8.30pm

So Canterbury could still be a possibility.

I have received an email off Dover council, it seems we can park in there Carparks overnight as long as we fit in a space (under 6m). The chap also said -

"I must add for future reference that Dover District Council are going to be implementing an over-night charge for motorhomes on Marine Parade and Waterloo Crescent. Not yet but it is in the pipeline."

Interesting.

Ferries

For one of the very first times I think I'm going to be thankful for living in the southmids. I'm bang on the M1 J15. Therefore, I'll be able to get to either Dover or

Poole ferries within a sensible drive time. Living here HAD to have an upside, only it's taken me almost 30 years to find. It still has some of the rudest people I've ever met.

If your from this neck of the woods, I didn't mean you, obviously. Fingers crossed smilie here if I could have found one

Ive been using it regularly over winter,if you arrive after 4pm it's £3 for 24hrs or £4 if arriving before 4pm,when we had the beast from the east I stayed 4 nights and it only cost £16. They even left the toilets open in case any motorhomers got frozen up and needed the facilities, they aren't bothered with the 48hr limit at this time of year and only enforce it during summer. Not sure where the £6 charge comes from,I've never had that one. The barrier always closes at 8.30pm.
If wanting somewhere close to Dover then Farthing Common is a good option.

If you were a paid-up member I would send a private message with the answer.

Do not chance your arm on Marine Parade you will get a ticket, they drive around Dover in a white van at night looking for lorries and look in odd places to get a ticket issued.
Bonus payments?????

I am slightly further north from you in South Derbyshire and they are probably one of the the nicest people we have met, everyone is friendly.

When we have stayed at the Canterbury Park and Ride and we have left in the early hours we have seen a lot of motorhomes parked outside where the bus stops are, that has been in August though so whether a blind eye is turned I don't know
