I can't drive or renew insurance now.

Well, up to a point, Lord Copper.

You can renew insurance without putting your licence number in and I expect your expired licence number will.do: it'll be the same licence number after you've renewed it.

You can renew your licence online by doing it slowly and carefully (unless you want to keep C1, that is), and as soon as the renewal has been accepted, you can use it to drive, even though it hasn't arrived yet.
