My advice would be to take up drinking and get Liz to drive you to the pub while you await the new licence.

That could take months (with a bit of luck.)

Ask them for confirmation on driving under section 88. They will send you an e mail confirming it ,then your safe to drive but only in the uk...it does not cover any other country.
You do need the e mail . I've done this in the past as I had to renew mine every year from 65., now at 73 it's every 3 years.
Driving licences are free .it's the medical that costs the money if you need one.

What you posted says 'may' not can, one of the conditions is.
"Section 88 allows some drivers to continue driving while the DVLA processes a medical decision, but only if:

you applied before your licence expired
you still meet medical standards
your doctor has not advised you to stop
your licence has not been refused or revoked"

I find 90% of all this IT crap does not work well esp for old farts like us, we are not wanted anymore.
Yesterday we tried about 3 times to get a pay booth in a dublin carpark to work, i was ready to take a sledge hammer to it.
I knew a chap who with tools he had unbolted a barrier once and turfed it to the side and drove out after getting trapped.

Not half, I may try later, this crap didn't bother me OUAT, but not nowadays, too much security crap due to scrotes & scammers.

Doesn`t it reset it`s self the following day.. I`ve been trying for 6weeks to pay my water rates ,i go into my account and it doesn`t send me a security number to log in . They keep sending me txt reminders, AH well my money`s earning interest.

Careful. I don't think thats the case if your licence has expired already.

I would confirm this with either the DVLA or ChatGPT Kev but a quick google tells me you can drive while they process your renewal "ONLY" if the current licence has not expired.

My advice would be to take up drinking and get Liz to drive you to the pub while you await the new licence.

Just say it`s in the post,it shouldn`t be hard for the police to check it. If i`m wrong let me know and we`ll visit you when they lock you up..

That was my understanding also. I would double check Kev as you could be in deep sh*t if its true and you have a prang. I think they turn them round pretty quick though.

My reminder came about 2 months before old license was due to expire.

New license arrived within a week.
