Driving licence at 70?

Nope! He was 70 in nov 23, and this was first time license suspended.
Sorry but I'm still trying to work out what you are saying.
You said the licnce was taken away "a few years ago", but was the original licnce returned, or was a new licnce returned, if a new licnce was issued in august 2021, then it would run for three years until august 2024, this would override any need to surrender the licnce at 70, if the returned licnce was issued before august 2021 then it seems a bit odd, but sometimes the DVLA seem to do 'odd' things.

In the UK, you don’t automatically lose your driving licence when you turn 70. You just need to renew it with the DVLA every 3 years after that. The renewal itself is free, and most drivers can complete it online or by using the appropriate DVLA form if they prefer posting the application.

Not on mine.
I'm guessing you've not done a D4 medical lately, I've worn glasses when driving for the last 40 years, but it was never on my licnce, now I've renewed including C1e it's on my medical and on my licnce, if I had renewed my licnce without C1e I'm guessing it would never be on there.

There is no 01 code on my recently renewed licence. I have worn glasses for many years, so I do not know why it varies, especially after having medicals and eye tests for the C1 category.

Even the D46 used for renewal of the ordinary B licence asks you if you need to wear glasses or contact lenses so it should show on any licence over 70.

Last year my cousin commented that she never had a licnce to drive her husbands 3.5t Ducato, I explained that her 'car' licnce should cover her, but then it came up that it was originally a RSA licnce and changed to UK one when she moved here, after looking at her licnce to check it covered her I commented "I didn't know you had a motorbike licnce", turns out for some reason when she changed address on moving to Cornwall she somehow gained a full motorbike licnce, so it doesn't surprise me that licnces are riddled with errors.

The Specsavers thing is not correct...I've recently renewed my licence , there's a box to tick to say you get regular eye tests. There's no proof required and no requirement to use any particular optician . I believe the Specsavers bit only happens if you need a more detailed examination after a doctor has raised concerns about your vision......there's a load of misinformation on the internet, virtualllly all the youtubes on over 70s driving , new rules for drivers ,mots or what starmers doing to your pension are meaningless word salads.

Quite true.

I dropped my C1 entitlement just over 3 years ago. Since then I have still had that entitlement on the last two renewals.

Here's a little tale to lighten the thread.
Whilst working as a hgv tanker driver for Turners of Norwich I got offered a full Polish driving licence for €100 .
They (turners ) are a very large haulage company who before the uk allowed eu drivers to work in the uk were brilliant to work for. Not so good now I gather.
All groups at a full licence..all I had to do was drive a car 100mtrs forward and 100mtrs backwards in Prague. Which then could be exchanged for a UK licence. I might add it was around 15 years ago.
This might explain some of the bad driving we see.
