Doesn't seem to bad

My idea for a van layout, i may be daft but sure not stupid.

Dont like that stuped layout with kitchem half over the door.
Personally Trev I agree with you I really don’t like that layout, but I think calling it stupid is a bit disingenuous to be fair.

But other people have different tastes and different needs to myself so clearly a well proven layout/method of construction and conversion simply can’t be wrong entirely.

Kev I’m sure would judging by the vehicle options he has posted previously like a custom built style motorhome, but he has restrictions including parking space and finances, these lead to compromises and he has to choose.

Rob has a similar layout and I’ve previously called it a burger van as that kitchen (not kitchem) extending over the doorway is an ideal serving counter (if only he could cook) again that suits him.

All in all maybe you simply should have said you don’t like the layout Trev mate, and left the unnecessary adjective out of your comments.

What exactly makes your layout any better than anybody else's? Everybody has different needs!

That would be completely wrong for many people, where would all of your outdoor stuff go such as chairs etc? Not to mention water tanks, heaters etc.
What would you want chairs for 😂 , there are ones inside, but you could store folding ones in the cupboard or under the bed, tanks under van, heater/batteries under the bed, come on Rob get the gears going round upstairs, nice eating at the table with a clear veiw out, all just my idea but not compulsery. ;)

You would have been able to see all of that table in picture 3, surely that is worth having a huge wide sliding door and losing a few feet of kitchen worktop
Also if that pesky kettle didn't keep making an appearance I would have been able to see more of the concrete post in pic 4, damn thing has been getting in hundreds of my photo's for the last 50 years. 😜

I and we never got offered a cup of tea, tight g-t. 😂

I said the idea seems stupid to me, never said other are stupid, well maybe the odd one.😂

You said it was a stupid layout - as used by many if not most of the self builders on this forum.

I don't need to get the cogs going round upstairs thanks Trev, talk like a twat and I will answer you like you are a twat.

Ease up rob, if we get our gogs going round then many a idea for vans goes through our heads, and each to there own, if thats what most self builder want its ok with me, i just think its stuped when you can have a clear veiw out with no obstructions.
No malice intended and hope non taken, im of to bed night folks.

How many people sit inside looking out of a sliding door?, when I built my Iveco Daily I put turntables on both seats, we sat with them turned around and a removable table in front, my favourite seat was in the doorway if I wanted to see outside.
The rear doors were welded shut, Pullman deanette seating with a table that dropped down to make a double bed.
It was ideal for us.

Yep my seats turn round at front and so does the second set to face the table, but then my van is a monster and not like a small unit.

I used to think he was fun Rob, but not for a long time.

Tell Liz she's losing worktop, then run Terry, that's why my self build had as big as possible, and still be able to use the SLD.

I don't think the perfect layout in a van exists. Most people probably think theirs is the best and it probably is. For them. Unless they are newbies and didn't think it through.

However there is always a compromise. I like the huge amount of day space our massive 8.5m van gives with a front and rear lounge, humongous bathroom and a large overcab but making up two beds each night is a bit of a faff and as some will have read rear lounge bed supports are prone to breaking. I could never park overnight in some places like St Abbs Harbour where we have just been. I wouldn't change it though. PVC vans like the one Kev posted I imagine will be superb for parking, great for tearing round the Alps or Pyrenees and easier to fit into smaller overnight parking spots but despite looking at them we could never see how they would work for us. Looks a good van for the money though.

I recently ripped out the gas oven and hob to replace it with drawers as we've gone all electric and need more storage space. As you can see in the picture it doesn't extend a great deal into the door space, but I will be adding a folding extension which will take up a lot more of the gap.

This doesn't bother me as it will only be in use for breakfasts and evening meals and if we really wanted to get out whilst meals were being prepared we would crawl under the extension!

We still get a great view from the sofa, but invariably sit in the doorway itself if admiring the view anyway.
