You can get a private prescription from your doctor and buy them.
Some blood pressure and other prescription drugs can be bought over the counter in Spain. Very often if you talk to your doctor he will write you out a prescription for 2 months then a week later write you another for 2 months.

I could possibly go three days without my prescription drugs, beyond that, I would be seriously compromising my health so this issue is something we need to sort out well in advance.

When i was in spain i could get the perscription drugs i needed over the counter .

I take over 40 tablets a day and the cost of buying them in Spain would be prohibitive
 
My wife need two lots of medication; one of which can be bought over the counter here in Spain and the other cannot. She has been open with her doctor about where and for how long we go in winter and he has enabled her to accumulate 5 or 6 months worth of additional medication while we are in the UK. So my recommendation to you would be to talk this over with your doctor well in advance of setting off.

A word of warning - someone else on the campsite we are on at the moment uses the EHIC card to regularly get her prescriptions made up for free (as a pensioner) at the chemists here in Spain. That is possible but be careful that you don't exceed the six month limit or you may get a nasty letter from the NHS telling you that you are in danger of being declared a foreign resident for health purposes (that is what has happened to her).
 
My husband is on medication after a heart attack. He has been told by his GP when inquiring about taking meds abroad that after 6months out if the country you are no longer entitled to NHS treatment or prescriptions. So after that time if still away then maybe it's time to get some one to collect and post them out

I have a house in Spain my doctor will only give me two months supply of tabs for my blood pressure. If you take the box to the doctor in Spain he will normally give you a prescription. I did have to buy one lot it cost me about 3euros because the Spanish prescription was out of date. When I spoke to my doctor in England and said how cheap it was he said we can't do what the Spanish do. To get an appointment with the doctor is very easy, in fact better than here. Just make sure you DON'T go to a private doctor, (if you do it will cost you a lot of money) and make sure you take your E111 card with you to present.. By the way, I only found out that I had high blood pressure by a doctor in Spain who saw me in the afternoon first of all and asked me to back at 10pm to check me again then sent me to the hospital as an emergency. The care I received was fantastic. We do not live in the tourist area, we live in the sticks (al campo) no problems. Hope this helps.

Good point - we have found Spanish healthcare to be second to none. The only thing to be careful of when using EHIC (used to be called E111) is the six-month rule.
 
I forgot to pack one of my prescription drugs when on a trip to France. We just walked into a pharmacy, showed my 'script' and and they had no hesitation in selling me a month's worth (€2.30). So no problem, but I wouldn't want to have to pay for all 5 drugs that I take every month.
 
Portugal

Had 3 months supply from our Doctor but decided to stay a bit longer and had no problem buying our prescription's over the counter in Portugal just showed the boxes and they gave us what we wanted.

We're in Portugal and just ask the pharmacy for hubby's tablets, don't need a prescription even just had a name of them.
He's given up asking the doc for scripts, buys them for €2.60 each month. Have built up 6 months med that way.

Youre lucky one of my pills costs £1 a day anywhere, always worth checking real prices brfore you commit. Also whilst you may well be able to get prescriptions from Portuguese health centers and doctors not all pills are subsidised some are at full price another thing worth checking.
 
I had to buy some blood pressure tablets and a cholesterol reducing one (not statins) in Spain about a month ago. When she brought them out the pharmacist said they were 54 euros, and added did I realise that the cholesterol one was 51 euros for 28 tablets, so I just bought the bp ones.
A couple that we came across on our travels said that they were going to make a trip to Andorra to stock up with tablets etc, before going from France to Spain, as medicines were much cheaper there, and available over the counter.

Mind you where sales of drugs are unregulated fakes are more likely
