Now that i have your attention.:wave:

Next year my wife & I will become full timers, mainly in Europe. We both have health problems & require ongoing prescription drugs. Are any of the full timers on here in a similar situation, if so, how do you get your drugs when abroad? It is my understanding that a doctor can only prescribe for a maximum 90 days.
We have a daughter who could collect our prescriptions & post them on to us but this doesn't seem ideal. We can see problems arising in slow deliveries, packets/drugs going missing [would your doctor re-prescribe in this case?], having to be static in one place waiting for packet/drugs to arrive.
I could possibly go three days without my prescription drugs, beyond that, I would be seriously compromising my health so this issue is something we need to sort out well in advance.

As always, any advice gratefully received.
 
good question ...I don't know the answer so cant help you but I am interested in finding out.
Surely you can get them abroad ? I cant see full timers having to come back every three months.

No, but i`m sure plenty on here do as they are seriously " Away With The Fairies " most of the time.

I think we could possibly get them abroad although it isn't something I have looked into as yet. UK prescription drugs are subsidised therefore the cost could be prohibitive, I am on seven, my wife on two. I wouldn't want to come back every three months, it would be such a mill stone around our neck if that was the case.
 
When we lived overseas we managed with home visits and the occasional load posted out by friends. Our GP issues 2 month repeats and now we just winter abroad has no problem with us collecting 12 months worth during the summer. We leave our repeat prescriptions in a prominent place in case some one has to get more for us and carry copies in case we need help from a local doctor. Remember your EHIC card and that it only entitles you to the local service so some drugs may not be free or even subsidised

Your GP writes out a prescription every two months which are 'stored' & when you come back to the UK you collect twelve months worth? Have i understood this correctly?

I turned 60 last July so now on free prescriptions which saves me £30 a month when using a pre-payment card. Prescription charges are a mess, my wife gets free prescriptions although her condition, thankfully, is not life threatening. My condition is life threatening but I had to pay for my prescriptions.

I shouldn't complain but it does seem a little odd.
 
I have the Co-Op collect and fill my prescriptions every month. If I'm not around a relative calls in and collects them.

If I need any while I'm away they post them to me.

We have a villa in Spain and friends in many places so can always get them at theirs.

We are registered with a local doctor near our Villa so usually not a problem

No I collect 12 months worth during the summer to cover my winter abroad.

You have a very good GP, generally they will only prescribe for 3 months. I will need to chat with my GP & see what she says.
 
You are very lucky as we have trouble even getting past the Gestapo that work on reception at our doctors.

You got one too! It wouldn't surprise me if ours has the SS insignia tattooed on her left breast & wears jack boots.

I wish ours did :o

My Doctor only gives me a prescription for 60 days because it includes Tramadol and Gabapentin so I go in a few days before setting off and get 60 days worth, if I am lucky I already have at least a Months supply if I have timed it right so I am OK for three months, then my Daughter gets my next prescription, parcels them up and posts it to me, if I am staying on a campsite it is easy but if not we plan where we will be and it is sent for collection from a Post Office, it isn't expensive
 
my doctor provides a repeat prescription on receipt of a request by Email ; his staff sends this electronically to an on line pharmacy of my choice, using the official NHS system
the on line pharmacy then posts the prescribed drugs to me , FOC if I am in the UK , they make a charge to post overseas

Thats interesting, I will have to enquire about this.
 
If you can only get 2 months worth, it would be terrible if you left them at the Bus Stop and had to go back for more. :)
