Do we have a right to park or not

I have stood corrected plenty of times on here.
I know what you mean, there are lots of idiots on YouTube.
But I have used it plenty of times to get good info.
Just recently I replaced my wives watch battery, but could not get the back cover back on. I must have spent 30 minutes almost inducing a hernia.
I went in to YouTube and this guy showed me how to do it.
Simply take something rigid like a bar or a spanner and place it over the back of the watch and press down each side of the bar simultaneously.
Hey presto it snapped back into place.
I avoided a divorce, a hernia, and a soar ear, all thanks to YouTube, and not for the first time. :)
Yeah, looking for instructions all the time! We researched what van to buy on the Tube. It was a bit of a blanket statement, but in my defence, I'm not myself, I am someone completely different and it was his fault! 😂 😂 😂

We were there 20 odd years ago

Safely parked in a C.S. on a farm above the town

We were advised that the travelling folk want to keep clear of the Diddycoys. They are there mainly for business, to catch up with friends and relatives and set up marriages for their kids.
If we didn't cause them problems, they wouldn't cause us any.
Certain pubs were out of bounds for us, of course.
But we enjoyed walking down through the town to see them bathing the horses.... and their daughters, in the River Eden. Watching deals being done with a slap of hands on hands ...and Gold cards being flashed, even in those low tech days
Wonderful memories.

It's probably a different world now, though.

I was waiting for that one! Ill have you know one of my music vids hit nearly 60000 but then the next two most popular ones are a fake daft one of my motorhome pal Ray catching a great white shark on a fishing rod and then after that a short clip of me trying to communicate with a Rhea bird from 18 years ago.

Mines a niche audience you see. Im not interested in hits, just quality fans. :D
There ya go, feckin click bait again :)

There ya go, feckin click bait again :)

Actually when I think about it the shark one is! Although it was just a joke to wind up Ray. My AI and photoshop skills have come on a long way since then. :D It did wind a lot of people up though and got loads of hits. It was only meant for him and the Facts forum really.

Nobody knows why this is so popular. Its been on nearly two decades though.

Then there was the Farting Lemur Monkey that got 33000 hits. Also nearly two decades ago. Different channel though.

Clearly people will watch any bollocks although the monkey is quite funny if you watch to the end

Having watched the video when this thread was first started and before the mood swing, I had a couple of observations then which I decided not to mention for fear of being vilified for thinking it looked a bit iffy!

First the police officers constantly referred to them having been told.
It occurred to me that they perhaps weren’t making themselves clear, and may not have been referring to direct communications, maybe multiple public announcement had been made prior to and during the event.

The other thing I thought odd unless I misunderstood the time frame is who stops to park in order to edit videos at 04:00!

Now as for YouTube, I don’t make clickbait videos, just factual stuff, that has a big downside, I get relatively few views!
One of my most popular being my first van tour or the one on how I did my diy Crafter Cam Belt change, probably because the others available at that time were in Russian are exceptions the ones I make of our trips are primarily for and watched by friends and family which is why I make them.

Last year whilst dealing with Karen’s latest cancer diagnosis I didn’t upload anything within the required 90 day window and I got demoneytized, losing the small pittance I was getting for the hundreds if not thousands of hours it’s taken over the years to churn it all out!

I’ve now got to jump through far more hoops than when I first became moneytized to get it back, one of the requirement was to upload several videos the other is to average 4000 hours of views which my channel may take ages to achieve and probably isn’t worth the effort, I could just do a one off bit of bs garbage instead but I won’t.

There is a heck of a lot of incentive to publish utter crap with vile click bait titles or thumbnails on YouTube it doesn’t need to be honest or honourable it just needs to attract an audience and that doesn’t matter if they are mature intelligent viewers that switch off in disgust or more commonly the increasingly common spoonfed, angry immature adults that thrive on this garbage as the latter are usually a better audience to feed the comments, algorithm and revenue streams.

Stopping Places

Information about temporary stopping places.

Please plan your journeys carefully to Appleby Fair 2024 as minor changes have been made to the provision of temporary stopping places detailed below, please check for updates before you travel and don't arrive too soon, the 2025 Appleby Horse Fair commences on 5 June 2025.
In 2025, as in recent years, there will be some important enforcement of restrictions on the A685 road on the outskirts of Kirkby Stephen to improve road and public safety.
There are in excess of 80 locations in Cumbria commonly used as temporary stopping places by Travellers on route to and from the fair. Not all are used each year and most give rise to little or no concern. However, previous concerns have been raised at some of the more popular locations, these may for example relate to road safety, environmental issues such as large amounts of waste, and problems with horses.
In liaison with Parish Councils and landowners, restrictions regarding period of use, designation of areas that can or cannot be used and restrictions on the use of some locations by motorised vehicles have been agreed and approved by the Multi Agency Strategic Coordinating Group.
Please note that the continued use of these stopping places is subject to occupants abiding to the agreed terms of use displayed on the land, including dates of permitted use.
These temporary sites will be regularly visited by representatives from both Cumbria Constabulary and Westmorland and Furness Council during the period of occupation.
The need for regulatory control of these sites will be kept under review and if a site is considered to be unacceptable, appropriate action will be taken.
Please note that certain locations along travelling routes to the Fair have Traffic Regulation Orders in place which for road safety reasons, prohibit roadside parking, these areas will be clearly posted and signed. In particular, within the Eden area, roadside camping restrictions are in place at Sandford Road End between the A66 and the railway bridge; along certain sections of the A685 between Kirkby Stephen and Brough and along much of Powis Lane, between the A66 and Long Marton Church.
It is an offence to contravene such Orders and action will be taken if parking occurs in contravention of the Order. Where road safety is a concern, especially at junctions where visibility is required this order will also apply to horses or horse drawn caravans.
The overriding message is please do not come early to the Fair, places to stop on route are limited and are needed by those who have no vehicular transport. It is, however, recognised that horse drawn bow tops have to adopt a staged approach when travelling to the Fair and these overnight stopping places are essential for their journey.

Appleby Fair Encampment Protocol:

The aim of the Appleby Fair Encampment Protocol is to effectively manage encampments which occur immediately prior to and after Appleby Fair in a manner which is lawful and proportionate, taking into account the needs, rights and traditions of the Gypsies, Roma and Travellers involved, as well as the concerns and rights of landowners and the local community. There are a considerable number of stopping places which have been used by Gypsies, Roma and Travellers for many years in association with Appleby Fair, although tolerated sites have declined in recent years.

Great post. No danger of being vilified though I would say (hope) :D Its an interesting debate. The whole thing is a bit fishy IMO but thats just my opinion.

As for YouTube I don't know how anyone makes any proper money out of it unless they are hugely successful, famous and popular on there or they come up with something that goes properly viral. I think you have to have a serious number of views into millions before you get anything decent but I stand to be corrected. Do any of these so called Van Lifers actually make anything? In all honesty I wish nobody made any money out of it full stop. Might stop the ever increasing dramatic clip bait and lengthy videos.

As an aside not all YouTube videos with shall we say ‘click baity’ titles get billions of views I bet a lot backfire!
This one is the only video I’ve published that falls into that category. I even made the effort to find an appropriately excessive ott thumbnail 😀

Unfortunately there’s a serious side to it, as it reflects situations we all encounter far too regularly and I suspect many of us spend time clearing up after them!

As a footnote two other properly brought up children stopped playing and helped clear it up

@barryd, the established channels with hundreds of thousands if not millions of subscribers can and do make staggering amounts of money especially if combined with sponsored ads affiliates etc, there’s a modest income available from around 50,000 subs upwards providing the watch hours are high enough, on the flip side my tiny channel was earning me about £300 which equated to fractions of a penny per hour!
It paid for the vans insurance or a couple of tanks of fuels but nothing else.

There’s a very good video about how much money YouTube paid to a guy who converter a tiny derelict house, that one video made a lot of money and I suspect the video about how much the video made also made a lot of money! It’s an interesting watch

The competition is intense with excess duplication and plagiarism of pretty much everything e.g. just how many tens of thousands of videos do we really need showing how to install a diesel heater or boil an egg etc!

A lot of people don’t do it for the money and many good channels aren’t monetised or the uploads are so infrequent that they’ve been demonetised, a few years ago YouTube didn’t push adverts to non monetised channels and I only monetised mine when they changed that policy and decided to push adverts to everything

FYI personally I never have to watch adverts nor most of the sponsored bs, I use the truly fantastic app called smarttube on my firestick which cant show adverts and has the fantastic SponsorBlock tool built in

Well I would have said that was for last year but it does mention 2025 so I don't know.

their are places for the horse drawn to stop but they found a lot had been mown so horses had nothing to graze and some had been banked to stop carts pulling on.

Correct Nab it is for last year.
I could not find this years.

But it underlines Scotias point about them being forewarned publicly.
