We're sitting here40 mins past check in time, nowhere near doing so. Traffic at a standstill. An absolute shambles. Our first time doing the ferry, and the last. Tunnel next time

Thats a shame . Have used that route [and Dover] many times and never had a problem .
Have used tunnel once , no problem either .
Price difference deciding factor for me

Very strange this we’ve been using them for years abso brilliant service as is staff
The only thing we ever complain about is the coffee is crap had a look and said al ferries on time when the gates closed on Monday two late comers even got a cepted
Maybe something had happened health?did you enquire as to what was wrong?

We eventually got on board, and it has left on time. The ferry itself is well equipped, staff all very helpful and friendly.
Having read reviews about the food, it looked about as uninteresting as described, so we had made other arrangements. The French obviously think that all the brits eat is fish and chips and Cornish pasties, when they're not coating all their food in gravy!
They really do need to sort out their logistics at Newhaven though, I felt sorry for the poor woman from security who was trying to sort out the mess

We have also used it quite a few times. We have never had a problem, I think you have been very unlucky.
With your 20% discount we have been across for as little as £70. We always come back Calais/Dover with Irish Ferries. The ships are excellent. We didnt relise till last time they give points each time you use them and you can redeem them against a future crossing. Last time we got £20 off.
We used to use the tunnel when you could buy the ten tickets at a time and share them with a nominated person. (frequent traveller) At the time it worked out at about £70 a crossing but now it is way out of our reach.

Having used them about 50 times I can say I have never experienced them to leave late in all those trips. It's no cruise liner but hard to beat on price for an oldie in a MH. And saving 150 miles compared to Dover for me. In winter with just the one ship running times can be a bit awkward, but my bed is just behind me so not a big deal.

What 20% discount ?

Another thumbs up from me for this crossing. I have used it many times and particularly like the fact that it is often quiet and not overly busy with quick loading and unloading and of course the discount. Never eat on ferries so not an issue, it's over priced pub grub and most pub grub is crap.

We had a two hour delay on a very hot day waiting to board at Newhaven with two dogs to occupy so have used the tunnel ever since. Maybe all these glowing endorsements may encourage me to give them another try. I do like the way the tunnel makes travelling with pets pain free though

Left on time ? Not too much of a shambles then .

We have used Newhaven Dieppe for years and the only delay was when an hgv broke down on board while unloading. Had to wait for a breakdown truck to tow it off.
Have to say food is not good. Last year we decided that the breakfast was never going to get better and won’t buy it anymore…
Otherwise will continue using this route , especially with 20% discount for being old….

Let's be honest if the tunnel was the same price as the ferries we'd all be on it especially if you have pets but the last time I checked it was almost double the price of the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry even before the 20% discount and like many others I've never had any problems with DFDS .

Regards,
Del
