Dartmoor landowner wins court case to ban wild camping.

I would love to see hundreds of folk putting tents up on his land this summer, and stay there till he backs down. And from what I am hearing that’s exactly what is likely to happen. Looks like we have not heard the last of this matter. I hope that this issue initiates changes throughout England, this could be the start of a real movement for change. His actions may well prove to be counterproductive.
I so hope you're right.
Trouble is loads of ordinary folk down here think open access couldn't possibly work. They've been well brainwashed over the centuries and have never heard of the Scottish rights.
And that's before you even get to government level!

There are plenty of activists in England who will take up this matter. If you look at many of the changes such as women’s rights, land access rights, or voting rights they were initiated by a minority doing the spadework for the majority. I hope this idiot has created such a movement, I reckon he has.

Countryfile has had an interesting bit about Dartmoor, I would suggest anyone wanting a fairly balanced version of what goes on should watch it.
What have I been doing this afternoon? clearing up litter left on our land, we left the 'midden' that is near a layby that the council decided to make.

Yes I saw it, as usual wankers ruin things for everyone else. Chopping bits from a 200 year old tree to burn, holding sessions for large groups, leaving mountains of rubbish, human excrement, it’s utterly depressing. It’s ironic because we had the same wankers up here on Loch Lomond, roughly the same type of moronic behaviour, and now it’s the only part of Scotland were you don’t have the right to camp from April to October. And this was the only part of England were you did have the right, but no longer. The landowner states he did not want to stop camping, but he wanted to be able to control it and were he would allow it to continue.
But let’s remember although these morons cause damage and costs to the landowners, they are a small minority. Most who camped In Dartmoor did not behave like this, and it’s them who are suffering, not the morons.

I think what was interesting was the map showing how much land is available for wild camping, also the land owner saying no camping close to car parks and beauty spots, a 20min walk before you can wild camp, I think this is a sensible compromise. There will still be some problems, but at least those who want to wildcamp have that open to them. Would be good if this was monitored and if it works then other parks might adopt it.

Pretty sure the rules already said you had to be out of sight from all roads
