Connecting an inverter to 240 ring main

i think the renology inverters probably have the facility the OP was looking for it has a kettle style lead that will take over when plugged in

Will your invertor have plug sockets built-in. ? Or 240v Bear wires that needs running in the walls to sockets ? As this should have more protection if running through the metal skin walls.thats why I used 32 amp wire also the run was over 7meters. I used the 16amp orange wire to the and from fuse box / consumer UNIT AND GROMETS WHERE I DRILLED HOLE FOR WIRE FOR THE RUN THOUGHT METEL BODY.

It can be done using a change-over switch.

I have done exactly this so that when I switch over to the inverter I use the same sockets installed in the van.

This avoids the hook up socket being ‘live’ whilst using the inverter and keeping the installation safe if both feeds are on simultaneously.

The unit I used is similar to this and fits in-line from the hook-up point to the distribution board.

This my setup..,

The answer to adding an Inverter to existing AC wiring that is/can be powered by another AC Supply is very simple and comprises two words ... "Transfer Switch"
This may be built into some devices.
Any Inverter/Charger (e,g, the Victron Multiplus) will have that built in and run automatically.
Some Inverters have a AC Passthrough so if EHU is detected, it will switch to that input instead of the Inverter. So again they have an Automatic Transfer Switch (often called an "ATS")
You can get standalone ATS's, and standalone Manual Transfer Switches
It is simply a matter of choosing the right solution for the installation and the requirement (y)

But ... and it is a BIG But ... if the Transfer Switch is not wired up correctly it WILL lead to a BIG BANG and an expensive lesson.
I used to build and sell a variety of ATS's and they were quite popular, but everytime I sold one I worried about the buyer not connecting it up right (doesn't matter what instructions you provide, there are still people who won't read them).
When I relaunched my website, I didn't include them in the new store deliberately :)

Now people can only answer the question as posed. If it is badly worded, tough, you get the answer the question deserves.
When I made a mains hook up pass thorough system for Murky some years ago David was very helpful in pointing out the shocking or explosive errors possible.
Earthing can also be a major problem. Don't touch the stainless sink whilst shaking hands with someone standing on wet grass!
