Comet london tap leaking - going mad

Hi all, so I converted a vivaro about three years ago and for my sink I used a single cold water comet london tap paired with a whale 12v pump. Initially I didn't notice any leaking but last year on my bi annual camerpvan trip in the summer I noticed it was leaking and not just a drip drip either but a proper flowing leak where the tap connects to the water pipe. So when I returned home I tried adding a jubilee clip around the water pipe when it connects to the tap but this didn't work. Next I tried buying a new comet tap (only £20) so I thought I'd give it a go and the exact same thing happens even with a new unit.

Am I doing something wrong?

Are these taps even fit for purpose?

Anyone else had problems/ experience with these taps?

(sorry about the photos no idea why it flipped them on their sides)

So I emailed grasshopperlesiure.co.uk where I bought the new comet tap and they asked me a serious of questions eg size of pipe being used (1/2inch ID pipe) non of them got to the bottom of the problem. I've ordered some 12mm ID pipe just in case 1/2 inch ID pipe isn't quite rights as 1/2 inch s 12.7mm as opposed to 12mm which is needed otherwise I cannot think what to do, the tap doesn't seem to be fit for purpose imo. And I'll have to thin about another tap setup. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I wonder if something like a wooden block fixed next to the pipe and then a Clamp such as this around the pipe and screwed to the block to take any pressure on the joint away?

Obviously you would need the right size clamp.

As far as I know there's 10mm, 12mm and 15mm push fit pipe generally used in campers, I think you may find that the 12mm pipe is the same as 1/2"? But I doubt if a fraction of a mm will make any odds anyway.
Two thoughts come to mind.
1, are you trying to use a jubilee clip that's too large? They don't seem to work if you use a large clip on a small pipe even if they say they are suitable, use a clip that's close to it's maximum size for best results.
2, Has the male plastic spigot cracked? Maybe you're cracking the spigot when you're tightening the jubilee clip?
If it's neither of the above then wrap the spigot with half a dozen turns of PTFE tape before pushing the pipe over the spigot.
